Location: Oregon | I thought some here might enjoy reading this story. They recently discovered a giant "ball" of sturgeon some exceeding 14 feet in length below Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River. Bioloigists estimate there may be as many as 60,000 fish in this ball! Here is a story with a video clip of the fish.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | That's cool stuff. Funny though... the article says the water was 34-35 but the camera says the temp down there is 55. Did they just overlook this?? Are they balled up there because there's a spring or something from the dam feeding warm water into that area. Maybe I need to e-mail them to get some answers... |

Location: Ontario, California | I would bet that yes.... there are a million sturgeon in the river. I fished the Columbia for Sturgies one day a couple years ago. My best guess would be that we had between 150 - 200 bites in about 6 hours. We ended up catching I think 6 between 8 and 10.5 feet long. It got to the point where you could tell how big the fish was by the way it was biting. |

I think the 55 is the depth. Not real sure though.
Pretty neat video. I have a buddy that has fished sturgeon on the Columbia a couple times. Says it was a blast.

He made me feel a little better by saying the reading confused him at first too. |

Location: Oregon | They sure are fun to catch, the large fish pull incredibly hard. It must have been really spooky for the diver to go down and look at these fish. The current below Bonneville is unreal, the Columbia River is huge. Just anchoring below the Bonneville is realy intimidating and to dive would be frightening! Many an angler has been lost below Bonneville.

Location: Rhinelander. | In wisconsin I have seen stugeon in the river so think you could almost walk across them. This is of course when they are spawning. It is really something to see. They are packed against the rock banks and sticking out of the water. You could easily grab them and pull them out of the water. I mean thousands of them are there. If you you are ever that area to witness it I suggest you do.
