| How can I get flashabou to be evenly distributed around my zip tie? Everytime I tighten down my zip tip my flashabou bunches in sections and leaves gaps. | |

| here's what's been working for me:
tighten the zip-tie slowly until there's just enough pressure to press against the flashabou; then push the flashabou around to even it out, hanging it both ways so you can see distribution from the top and bottom. tighten a bit more, watching and checking it, and then tighten it all the way tight.
keep in mind that it doesn't need to be perfectly even - it balls up behind the blades on the retrieve anyway...

Tie it.
I've been making bucktails since I was a teenager, and I always tie.
In fact, I just tied up one for myself that has a 9" flashabou body section that I tied the first layer going toward the butt, then I 'parachuted' the next two colors and finished it off with a 6" head section that I tied sparsely, facing the butt. I've never used a zip tie for a bucktail, and never will. I get better and more precise layering and coverage by tying, so why would I change. Besides, you can't pull any flashabou out after its been buried in the threads of a keel weighted coil and then having 3 coats of epoxy over the wraps. Tie wraps might be faster, but I'll stick with tying.
I'd could never make these for anyone. I spent over 25 bucks for enough flashabou for 2 big lures. If I catch fish on them, I might make more.
