Location: So. Illinois | This is a follow-on question to one I posted recently. I just picked up a rod to throw Mag-dawgs and pounders. for those who throw them, do you find the need to use a high speed reel (such as a Abu C4 6.3:1) or do you use a standard reel (such as a Aub C3 5:3.1). I appreciate any thoughts / recommendations.

| personally i like a 5.1 - 5.3 to 1 reel for my dawgs, they pick up the slack well and then i can use that rod/reel combo for other things too...to me a 6.3 to 1 reel has very few uses to me...

Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | I agree with Smelly Nelly. No reason to get a high speed reel, plus with the jerking and ripping you will trash a high speed reel in about 2 days. Get a solid 5.1 or 5.3 and you'll be set. |

Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | I personally use a 5.3-1 for soft plastics. Like stated above, it picks up slack well, which is important during the pull and pause retrieve. During this type of presentation, about half of your hits will feel as if a walleye picked up a jig. This type of hit is undetectable with slack line. Hope this helps! |

| The 7000ihsn with the 5.3to1 ratio works well for me. Kdawg |
