| Sorry, but this isn't about Muskies. I know there a lot of smallmouth fisherman on this website.
My fiancee and I are going up to Sturgeon Bay this weekend. We will probably go fishing once or twice for smallies. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've fished some of the Sturgeon Bay water or water close by for smallies, but that's been typically in the spring. Little Sturgeon is a well known smallmouth spot and the fish are usually located on the north shoreline. Find the breaks and a few deep water humps, and you should be in business. I've heard that some guys are doing pretty good on the fish with topwater baits.
In the "Ship Canal", by the city of Sturgeon Bay the areas near Quarry Point are good places to try. The area in Sawyer harbor has some great rock structures and deeper water adjacent to it. Be sure to be cautious in this area because there is a reef located not far from Quarry Point that will take out your lower unit.
I've always had fantastic luck with Kalin jig heads 1/4 oz jig heads with a 3" Kalin tail. The following colors are good producers for me...Chartruese, Cotton Candy, Firecracker, and Orange. Small safety pin spinnerbaits also work very well. Finally, any crankbait in a crawfish pattern can be dynamite when crashed into the rocks.
I wouldn't hesitate in bringing the musky gear neither. Tossing around awhile may well be worth it, and there's good documentation of some nice fatties living in the waters. It's not going to be a barn burner on numbers, but quality of fish is sure there.
