I would imagine you have a starting battery for a main engine? If so, instead of hooking your depth finder and lights to your trolling motor batteries, I'd suggest going to you starting battery. You want your trolling motor batteries running only the trolling motor. The cranking battery is a better choice for running a depth finder and lights.

To connect in series, use a jumper between the Pos on one battery, and the Neg on the other. Connect your Neg wire from the TM to the Neg on Battery 1, and the Pos wire from the TM to the Pos on Battery 2. That's how you get 24 Volts.

Connect to both terminals of either battery for 12V. Battery voltage adds in series (12V for each battery)when used across the outside ends of the series but each individual battery always remains at 12V.

Amp hours remains the same in series but adds in parallel, while battery voltage remains the same in parallel but adds in series.
