Location: Wausau | The past years I have managed to find one weekend to fish the MI opener and have been visiting the same two lakes; LVD and the Cisco Chain. I have done well on both, but I like to learn new waters as well. My hope is to create a list of MI/WI boundry waters that one could fish during the MI opener.
Looking at a map there are a few other lakes, but not sure if they hold musky.
I am also aware of Tenderfoot, Smokey.
Can one fish Oxbow?

| GRIMM...SMOKY IS ONE OF THE TOUGHEST LAKES IF NOT THE TOUGHEST LAKE IVE FISHED IN VILAS COUNTY...PERSONALLY WHAT I LIKE TO DO IS GO UP TO IRON RIVER WHICH IS LIKE 30 MINUTES NORTH OF LANDO. THERE ARE SOME GREAT EARLY SEASON LAKES UP THERE |

Andy why limit yourself to just 3 lakes on the Cisco Chain? Get a MI license and give yourself the ability to fish all the lakes. With that option there is no need to fish anywhere other than the Chain if you so please.

Location: Medford, WI | Andy, funny thing you mentioned this...I was just looking at a map I have of Northern Wisconsin today, searching for "border" lakes to fish on. I'm moving up to Trout on the 17th, but I don't start training until Monday and then I'll have Wednesday off right away; so I'm definitely looking to get on some water!
I fished Smokey this last fall and as mentioned above, it was tough....marked plenty of suspended fish, but couldn't get anything going.
How have you done on LVD early in the year?

| There are no muskies in Michigan's Upper Penninsula. Don't listen to Cisco, he's never even been to MI. (Nor did he and his brother save me one very windy night on Smokey.) |

Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | You can fish Tenderfoot, but you cannot fish Palmer. Some people have been tagged for that by the DNR. Their thinking was that if the two are connected you can fish them both. Not true. |

Location: Medford, WI | If this helps clear the whole trolling issue up or not, this is in the MI fishing guide:
"You may fish from a motorboat with the motor running or a sailboat under sail only on the Michigan portions of the waters of Lac Vieux Desert in Gogebic Co."
(Thanks Andy for mentioning the list and where to find it)

Location: Medford, WI | Very well could be, I just noticed that today when I was looking at the MI fishing reg.s. The afternoon we fished it, we were just looking for somewhere new to fish as we couldn't get anything going on the lake we were fishing so I didn't get to research it at all. Really liked the looks of the lake though and I'm probably going to fish it a few times this summer again. I would be thankful for any advice that anyone has regarding the lake.
Thanks, jake |
