I bit the bullet and bought a port side console for my 02 FishHawk 1750. I ordered it direct from Crestliner. For years I thought about building my own, but to have an exact match console in my opinion is worth it. Definitely go with marine plywood.

Location: Green Bay, WI | Several years ago I had an Alumacraft Tournament Pro 185, with one side console. I ended up selling the boat, but before the sale was finalized, I added a right-side console. I bought it from the factory, but don't think I paid more than about $350-400. But it was a perfect match of course, as it was factory made. I think it took all of about an hour for them to install. So I would concur about trying to get one from the manufacturer.
But if you really feel you want to make one yourself, you could go with either marine grade plywood, or a quality treated plywood. If it's going to be covered, the asthetics won't really matter anyway. I believe Lund actually uses treated plywood instead of marine grade (at least that's what an Alumacraft dealer once told me, lol).
But if you really want to do it yourself, you can get marine plywood from aircraft supply houses:

Just do a search for "plywood" in their search engines. Better sit down though--a 4x8" sheet of 1/2" marine plywood will cost you several hundred dollars; but it will be quality stuff from those stores.
But here's a link to search for marine grade plywood near to where you are. I used a place called McCormick's Lumber in Madison, Wisconsin and got some Okoume plywood--it's great stuff.

I'd certainly prefer the look of OEM but am planning on home-made for 2 reasons:
1) I was told the 2000 model year passenger console is no longer available.
2) If I did use the factory hardware I'd have to modify my existing rod locker lid. | |
