Never mind... Just made a few calls and he seems to be done. River Run (Paul) may make one small production a year (for his online sales) but other than that the Manta will be seen no more in retail shops ;(

WOW! Do you think I can take a loan from you when it comes time to buy myself a new boat? I wish I would have held on to the one I sold for something like $22 on Ebay. Time to see the price go up AGAIN.

I know myself and many others have tried for a long time to contact them to buy the company/Manata brand. No replies from emails or phone. I guess they want the Manta to die a quiet death

Bikini bait's Has just come out with a similar bait ,"TurmoilX" that has the potential of being a better hooking bait. Will they be available online or will the lucky few who have 40+dollars to spend on ebay get them? That's what I'd like to know and do they have a belly roll?

Curious,
David

The funny part is the guy's not really interested in making baits but won't sell the company either. I approached him twice and have always gotten the same answer - not interested in selling out.

Well, if Paul/River Run does not want to sell and does not want to make the lures anymore then I assume the company is done and he won't mind if some similar baits come out soon. I have 14 other lures being designed&tested currently. Not sure I can add another one right now but I would love to have a lure like this in my arsenal.

If he doesn't mak any more Manta's, I sure hope someone will step up and make some more. One of my favorite jerkbaits, and the 12 that I have now won't last forever!!!

I agree mine aren't going to last forever either. I have missed my fair share on these too, and would like to see something along these lines with more/better hook up capability. Dang nice baits though! SHAME.

So on the hook up is it just the width of the bait and this "covers" the hook points? A rule of thumb for me is to always use a hook that the hook points are just slightly on the outside of the lure body. On my Mantas I noticed some have the Ted hooks and I though this is what River Run was doing this for... Without that Ted hook the hook points are inside adn under the lure body. Are the Mantas you do not get good hookup the ones with the Ted hooks or regular hooks?

T hook. It is where you bend two points out. If you look at the hook from the bottom is looks like a "T".

Yes they will be available online in the coming weeks. As for belly roll, there is some but it's minor. I will be reworking my web site to allow direct sales and will likely also offer the lures through Aaron with Musky Tackle Online. I also intend to do a pool demo of the lure in the coming weeks.

thx.

Sorry i do "T" hooks on some baits. ( I just got some coffee in me ) and realized I dont know anyone named ted that makes hooks. Yeah this one is a favorite, it is in pretty rough shape, the original tail section had broke off on two seperate occasions. Roger @ H2O fixed her up good as new. Dang nice baits, fish eat em'.

Guest,

"Free market" - a market in which supply and demand are unregulated except by the country's competition policy; one in which any individual may exchange their products or services by competitive bidding, open to all, without constraint; occurs where there is little or no regulation of commercial activity by government; the price of an item is arranged by the mutual consent of sellers and buyers, with the supply and demand of that item not being regulated by a government.

Keep up the good work, James!

Glad to hear you might be having Aaron at Musky Tackle Online carry your lures when you get geared back up. Aaron is a super guy to buy from.

LOL about Aaron (Musky Tackle Online) and his site! First time I found it a few years ago I thought some guy had screwed up his prices so I bought about $150 of lures! Came back for more soon after that. He really does have the best prices for muskie and pike lures out there. Don't worry, not a commercial for my lures as he only carries my Grunt on his main site. Just a great place to save a few bucks and get all the main stream lures you need.

Anyone know of any stores still carrying the "Hammer Head" (River Run's topwater model)

You don't hear too much about them but it's my favorite, most used topwater.

JB's in Toronto has some Hammerheads, but they're pricey, like 29 bucks CND.

You can't blame Paul for wanting to spend more time with his family.

I'm in the same boat right now...new job that is taking more of my time, and baits are often getting put on the backburner to spend time with my daughter. I cant do it all and, unfortunately, the baits are what has to suffer.

I'm getting to the point where I am thinking of throttling it back or selling out also...tough decision, but I've got to prioritize. I just dont have the time. Not sure what to do.

Family is #1. Good for Paul. I see others with good lures that are filling the gap. It will be filled soon I am sure. I would just suggest to Paul he may want to capture intrest in his company now before the gap closes. Fully understand the time issues with family! I work from 9pm-midnight and again from 5am-6:30am on my lures so I can spend time with my wife and kids. With a full time job the no sleeping gets to you a little. Beer drinking left my weekly schedule a few years ago ;(
