Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | Before I call Lowrance I thought I would ask here...
On my new Lowrance 112, when I am using the split screen GPS mode, I like to have the "Track Up" function on. I don't like heading south, and having north always up and having to look at everything backwards...
Anyways, if I am running the boat with the big motor the GPS screen has no problem following my movements and the map shifts when ever I move from heading north to west or whatever... But when I am using my trolliing motor and fishing, the screen doesn't keep up. I will be heading down a weed line pointing south and at the start of the run everything will be fine. When I have to turn to follow a point out and I am now heading west, the map doesn't follow along and change with me....it doesn't "Track Up". This only does that at low speeds like when using my trolling motor. If I crank my trolling motor up to 10 and hit it for about 10 seconds the map will catch back up and move in it's right position.
Any idea as to what I can do???
I know I probably didn't explain my problem the best...so if you have any more questions, just ask....
Thanks for any help you could give me. |

| the gps needs for you to be moving a bit more quickly for it to know what direction your moving to keep the map positioned "track up". i dealt with this alot when using a gps on foot.
not much to be done outside of moving faster as far as i know.

Location: Wisconsin | GPS error fluctuates and thus your position is always "moving" around a circle that is your EPE. These are small movements and usually are not detected when running, but if you stop and zoom in sometimes you can see your cursor change positions. This isn't as great as it used to be with WAAS and the SA off, but it will happen. I would keep north up as this is the best way to keep the screen stationary.
Basically, once you being moving at a good rate of speed, this flux's don't come into play because of your general direction.
There might not be much you can do....

| Try going to my trails then to trail options, see if your trail is updating on auto or timer, turn it to timer and have it update every 3 seconds or less. also make sure the amount of points of the trail is at the max of 9999. If you dont max out the points your trail will start to eat away at it's beginning really quickly. When it is on auto update, it could be updating every second or every 30 seconds. |

Location: Wisconsin | Even if you use that, when you are looking at the screen, the screen will still flip around because when you are stationary, the GPS moves around a small circle. If the GPS error is 20 feet, then that is a circle with a radius of 10 feet and the GPS position will move around that error. This will make the screen in "track up" change around which can be a pain when you are moving slow around. I will go Track up when running out to your spots, and which to North up when you are trolling.
The trail mode only drops a "crumb" on the trail every 3 seconds instead of continuous. This mode is there because older GPS units didn't have many points (memory) to store tracks. The new units have a little more lee way.

I have it on track up as I explained.
But it doesn't always track up...it will for a little while but when fishing it won't pick up on turns all the time. Pretty soon North is west and South is east....
I have it set on Track Up, but the map screen doesn't always keep up with my slow movements. When I do a 90 degree turn with the trolling motor, all of a sudden the map stops turning and it says I am heading west, but I know I am heading south. |

Location: Wisconsin | It will do that....your going to have to leave on north up when you are stationary or moving slow....Just the nature of the system... |

| I am with Mike on this one....my 110c in the rear keeps track up no problem with the trolling motor, last year I bought a 27c and now I am having the same problem Mike described with the 27c but not the 110c, both are in track up and they are both updating every 3 seconds. Before I bought the 27c I had a 334c and it also held track up without a problem no matter how slow or fast I was going. Do I have a faulty unit(27c)? |

Location: Wisconsin | It probably isn't faulty. This will also occur if you are zoomed all the way down. Many GPS units when you are stationary will jump around if you are at maximum zoom because the distance across is small and the error is laid out over that distance. You can see the cursor moving around. I don't know if the 110 has a different zoom range than the 27, but this is normal for GPS to do this. Might be something to try out on the water, see if it changes based on that. OR , just get used to seeing things north up. |

| You have to be moving fast enough for the gps to register a "speed over ground" reading otherwise it will just think you are in the same spot. I have had grey plug, blue plug, and now red plug gps units from lowrance and they all would do this. If you are getting a speed reading then it should update your position. At least mine always do. |

| Mike,
Mine does the same thing, but I run into a different problem with mine on Track Up when slow trolling for eyes. I'll be going .9 - 1.4 MPH, and the thing will spin like crazy. If you are trying to watch it, it will make a person dizzy. Just not moving fast enough to make it a steady view.
I am in the habit of leaving it on North Up in Split Screen, and sometimes I go to Track up when moving. I got pretty good at turning left, when it looks like I should be going right! I'll have to see if I can have different settings for full Map and Split screen. I'll let you know.
