Location: Cedarburg, Wisconsin | Yup. 12V is 12V, either battery up front will do but NOT both. The only thing you may experience is noise from the trolling motor. Then you would have to try to filter the noise out. Sometimes that's not easy, sometimes it is. All you can do is try it and see what happens.
If you let the batteries really run down, then if you put the motor on hi you might kick the locator off line from the voltage drop, but that's no different than a voltage drop created from starting the big motor if you starting battery is worn down and the locator is connected to it. I have never had that happen to mine though so I think it would be pretty rare.
Either way, your best bet is have the power wires to the locator running directly to the batteries where an inline fuse is directly attached to the terminal. The farther away from the battery you splice in, the less protection you have from noise and voltage drops. | |

| It's my understanding even if you just hook up to one battery you are still gonna get 24v because they are hookied up in series. Just make sure you have 12v coming off the connection before you hook it up, because if 24v is sent to that locator you will probably fry it.

| as far as overall battery life, i'd spend the time to wire it back to your starter. you will maximize your performance if you treat both batteries equally instead of drawing more of one than the other. not sure if there are voltage/current issues with hooking into a 24 volt system or not. | |

| You can, but I don't rcommend it. Too much chance of getting interference, and poor performance from your sonar. I would power it from the cranking battery. Ideal would be to run the wires all the wat to the battery, but not critical to do so. A lot of boats have a set of wires run from the fuse block to the front, and these would be acceptable. I run mine this way on my 1890 Tuffy.
If your TM is 24V, your batteries are wired in series. If you have to use this source, pick one battery, and wire to it. Do not go across both batteries. That will get you 24V. The drain on one of these batteries is negligent as far as battery life. Keep them charged to full in between outings. Always use a fuse at the bettery end of your power to you accessories.
