| I'm thinking about trying some spinnerbaits this year. Anybody have any good ideas on this? I mainly fish rivers but sometimes I venture off to a lake. I was checking out the Simms School & shad, And I saw some Big bladed spinnerbaits in the new Rollie & Helens. Any help would be great! How about cowgirls cousin, "CYCO SPINNER"
Thanks...Brian Gilmore

| I have one of the biggest schoolin' shads and it does look pretty cool in the water. It is a beast of a spinnerbait. My favorite is the terminator toothy critter, but you can't find those anymore. The rad dogs are easy to use and have a combination of silicone and flash. |

| There's a bazillion different types out there. I also use Raddogs, Black/Silver and White/Sllver. The single blade black/silver has been a good nighttime bait for me; one score was a 43"er on a figure 8 one dark night. The white/silver seems to work well in reeds during the day.

| I second the Long Tales. Nice bait and the custom colors are right on, and nice to deal with!! |

| There is a good article in the latest issue of Esox Angler that explains the differences between many of the more popular sp-baits on the market this year. It's good info. If you're considering trying out sp-baits this season - read it. |

| Northland bionic bucktails rock (the old ones with the colorado blades, NOT the willow blades . . . not sure why they switched) -- I don't know what it is about them but they seem to do the trick!

| I personally like the Figure 8 Boss and Mini Boss. I almost always have one rod rigged with one of them.

Location: LOTW every chance I get | Not to highjack the thread, but how do you guys choose what weight of spinnerbait to throw in a given situation? I assume it has to do with depth and cover thickness, but i don't know where to start.

| Ace Tandems by far. I have caught more fish on those than any other bait. Jerry Oestreich makes them and they ROCK !!!!

| Good spinnerbaits are left out of every conversation. This one is no exception. Rob Kimm in the recent Esox Angler left out perhaps that best spinnerbait made of all, Willey's spinnerbaits out of West Virginia. I fish the T-5 and T-10 and do well. I buy them now only for the colors I don't have. They are extremely well built and produce fish after fish for me without getting beat up from the abuse. Five stars. Muskie Machinery also makes a excellent double #10 blade original (original). Duff |

| It seems like spinnerbaits are pretty good no matter which one you throw! It also seems like everyone has their own preferance and I'm just gonna have to find mine. Thanks for all the help guy's!

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Pearson Grinders #1 for the weed beds and built like tanks you can't go wrong, grim reapers, rad dogs, and marvs.
The cyco spin is a great spinner puts out great vibes but is hard to crank in with the wrong tackle and is a slow mover in general especially if you want to save your arms. A cowgirl pulls easier. Better bait at night or when water temps are low in spring and fall. They don't cast very well either compared to other spinners. The blade I think is heavier then the lead head which makes it tumble and foul. Designed to ride high in the water column.
When retrieving a grinder spinner thru weeds point the rod and reel at the bait for an incrediblly straight retrieve. Let the bait hit the cabbage and keep reelin you'll get hit hard for sure. These baits can be worked at the base of weeds if heavy oz. and you have enough patience reelin in the bait at a moderate to slow retrieve without setting the hook on a weed snag, keep the rod down, don't whip the rod to the side. you'll get fouled on the weed.

Location: north central wisconsin | My buddy Greg makes the GP Thumper spinnerbait, and we've done alot of the testing on rivers, though they've performed great on the lakes in MN, WI, and green Bay especially well. His lures can be custom orderred by size and color, and are very unique with the big rubber shad tail trailer. Definately big fish lures, and worthy of a look. Drop me an email or PM for more info. or pics. |
