| Just got a 8er st.croix and CUT 3 1/2" off the butt and put on a balancer!Almost cried at first but sucked it up and sawed! So it is now 7'8 1/2" and a great stick. The thing I learned is it is not really a light bait rod, which I thought it would be,like for small bucs and 6"jakes.But 8" reefhawgs,top-raiders,10"jakes work effortlessly. And these baits travel a country mile too!Excellent for 8`s also!So anyone looking at these rods, just remember that they seem to work best for med. to large baits! Its rated at 1/2 to 2 1/2 but the high end more then the low end!Now all I need is the first slime! | I noticed that with St. Croixs Jeff. As you've seen all my handles are cut down. I've been trying to get St. Croix to go back to the old style. An awesome 8' stick is the All Star Western series 8 footer. My buddy has one and I will soon, little lighter than the "cumbersome" Croix, and pitches small bucks to 10" jakes no prob. I love my St. Croixs, but I wish they were a bit lighter. The old 7'6" ruled, the new one is like a club(great for heavy cranks and jerks, not for hair). | |

| Hi Jeff,
I bought an 8'about 6 weeks ago and love it. Mine will throw smaller bucks "muskie killers" etc. I have a 5600-UC on it with 65# Tuf.
What kind of balancer did you use? I have another rod that I've been meaning to introduce to the saw.....
Hey we have got to get together.......I've got a big girl spotted. Had her up twice now, I'm think'n if I'm gonna hook her this time of year it's going to be real early morning. Think maybe you need a night away to celebrate the new job.....[;)]
Talk to you soon,
Mark

| Hey Mark,I kinda forgot what WORK is,cause my @$$ is dragg`in!Its nice to have lots of money and just stop in and buy stuff at will though!Just trying to find time to use it now is hard. The load will light`in soon as I am wrapping up 4 homes now and will be down to just 1 at a time, then Sept. fish watch out!Hope your new gig is going smooth,I KNOW the new boat is!The balancer is Normark/Berkly black rubber cap with 3 lead slugs and 4 quarters also added!Makes that 8'Croix neutral! Perfect!Am going to also buy a 8'Worral and 8' Allstar and try them all! 8'ers are the only way to go for all my fish`in,I`m hooked on the long dogs! Hope tthings are good for you,you must be catch`in up to me in fish now?Talk to ya later Jeff | |
