Some lures work great out of the box...some lures need a little tweeking/modifying. What lures do you modify? What lures MUST BE modified to make them work for you? Topwater, tails, cranks, jerks, & plastics...let's hear it

Might not be your answer you want, but out of the box I'd say sharpen the hooks would be the best thing to do.Other then that ,change split ring if they are a not quality ones and maybe T ing the hooks.Dennis Blume

With the shallow invader, I twist a wire from the front hook eyelet, then run that diagonally though the second one then twist an eyelet in the wire about an inch and a half back of that which puts the rear hook back farther. No hook tangleing and better hookups. Nothing new, I can't take credit for that.

Pig crankbaits, especially the jointed ones, bend the lip a bit more towards 90 degrees. They will really wiggle good.

I take the 4X hooks off of any bait I buy and put light wire hooks of the same size or bigger on them for better hookups.

Soak a banana jerkbait in some water before you use it. If I have a big cooler i just leave it in there. It is still bouyant but the action is more controllable.

Most mods we make are with a paint stick or magic marker. A little contrasting color goes along way. We do upsize hooks on many baits as well sometimes this changes actions. Also adding weight to say a Wades Wobbler or replacing the weight in a Manta improves or changes the actions.

I'll put a larger treble on an 8" crank and put one of the 6" twin-tail grubs that Dick Moores sells on that larger treble. That 8" bait becomes a jointed 12"-er with that sweet plastic butt appeal. It's a great late season trolling bait.

I mean to say that it's the tail treble this is done with. That may have been obvious, but I thought I'd clarify. (Hmmm...what would a grub off the belly hook look like? I guess a Lamphrey, eh?) -Scott
