Anyone know what the proper size starting battery for an 80 HP Yamaha 4 stroke might be? Three GPS / Sonar units would also be running on it.

A 27 series marine starting battery is all you should need. I run all my accessories off mine. I believe I'm running a Everstart currently. Just make sure it's a marine starting battery.

Do agm's have a 'starting' or only dual purpose?

Bruce- They are available in both. Go with the biggest dual purpose you can fit into your battery space. When you need the extra capacity, if it's not in the boat, you will regret it, i.e., some cold lonely place where no one else is around.

JUst my 2 cents.

Good luck.

There is a setting on this onboard Cabelas charger, wet or AGM. I would like to get a 27 agm if it will fit in the space by my motor. Do I have to replace the deep cycle also to an agm because of this switch on the charger? Charger is a Cabelas ProSport II 8 amp, made by Pro Mariner.

I have that nit on my boat. If I recall correctly, you can only have one type of battery on the charger. So you should not mix the types. If you do not have the instructions, you can find them at their website of the firm that made the charger..

I also agree with the largest battery that will fit.

Check your manual for your required CCA's. Not all 27 series carry the same CCA's. My everstart is 800 CCA and the interstate dual 27 is only 600 CCA. Be sure you have plenty.

I'd contact Pro Mariner direct and ask them if it's feasible to mix the battery types. I looked at the Cabela's info & it was unclear whether you could have two different types. If you only have one switch, my guess would be it's not.
