| Anyone out there have a good design for quick strick rigs? I have the materials and have several made up but I am not 100% sure I am on the right track. I have circle hook joined into a 3 way swivel and a 3X leading off of the other end that hooks into the back, my concern is that I will not be able to rip through with the treble to get into the mouth for a good hook up. any thoughts or suggestions? |

Location: Hayward, WI | This probably won't help you a lot, but I have been thinking of making a home-made version of the Hulcano rig, but using wire rather than flourocarbon. I have single strand wire that I would like to use, but if the rig seems to need more flexibility, I would use 7 strand (especially the short piece that IS 7 strand on the Hulcano).
The Hulcano looks like a very simple rig to use, and I like how clean it looks with just one treble along the body and one small single bait hook in the lip of the sucker.

Location: Eau Claire,WI | I copied mine after the Maina qs rig. For me it works the best, uses a rubberband,no circle hook. |

| Curlytail,
The Hulcano Rig does not need more flexibility. What part of the rig are you referring to? |

| Jah- Please do not use a circle hook AND a treble hook on the same rig. Cirle hook rigs are designed to be swallowed and the circle hook is suposed to be pulled back out of the throat with gentle steady pressure until it catches the corner of a fishes mouth. Not a tactic that I would recomend. If a fish is allowed to swallow the rig the treble will probably kill that fish if it gets deeply hooked. If it's not allowed to swallow the rig, then the circle hook is a waste. Hook-up percentage is too low with a circle hook rig anyways, IMO. I would recomend you make some type of quick strike rig with one or two trebles, depending on the size of the sucker. Or, just use a smaller thin wire hook through the lips and then the treble. I make my own that is basically a Mania rubber band rig built stronger. I tie a knot in the wire so the crimp only holds the tag end and the knot takes the abuse. I also use American Hardwood Lures Super Snaps instead of regular store-bought snaps. These snaps are strong as he__, somewhere in the 200 lb range. They will not open on a fish. I have only had one miss in my boat out of 12. Where are you located? I'm in Madison. I'd be happy to show you my rig if you ever swing by this way.

Location: Hayward, WI | Guest, I didn't mean that the actual Hulcano harness needs more fleibility. I meant that maybe my home-made version made completely out of single strand wire might need more flexibility.
The only part of the rig that looks like it might need to be flexible is the part that is 7 strand on the actual rig - this is the wire that connects to the treble on the Hulcano. I thought that maybe solid wire would be too stiff to conform to the head shape of the sucker very well. Was thinking that might be why Stealth used 7 strand versus solid wire.
I don't really see solid wire being too stiff, especially if it's only 174 pound, but I haven't made one yet to find out.
