Subject: 115 Evinrude FICHT

I was hoping you could help me out. I took my boat in to the shop today and I just wanted to get new spark plugs for the 115 FICHT and have them hook the computer up to the engine to run a diagnostic check. The new service manager said it would be $175 for labor, not including parts, is this high? I understand the plugs need to be indexed, but just thought I would ask. I have had this done before and have not worried about the cost, but funds are a little tighter now.

Thanks,

Niel

Depends on the hourly rate for service and the charge for a diagnostic. Shop around a bit to compare.

Thanks Steve,

What do you see as an average hourly rate for service??

Typical shop rate is $75-$100 per hour these days. Just connecting up to the computer can cost $60 or more. There should be no extra charge for indexing the spark plugs. It is a simple task, and takes literally seconds more per plug to accomplish.
