Location: Greenfield, WI | Weather was TOOOOOO Nice to stay home so Darrel "DH Buc" Mack and I had to go out to Smokey's Muskie Shop on Pewaukee Lake to stare at the ice to help it melt!
The edges are opening up, and the lake ice is getting mighty dark.
With a little bit of rain and some wind and some luck the ice might be out this week.
Last week I saw the start of the spring ritual of dozens of muskies in the hole below the dam on Okauchee Lake, along highway 16. The best viewing platform is on the bridge on the frontage road just downstream from the dam, especially on sunny days.
I talked to a friend up on North Twin who said that there was 30"+ of ice on the lake yet.
I pulled the boat out of the garage today and fired up the Yamaha today. What a wonderful sound!
Spring is coming!

Location: Kodiak, AK | My soon-to-be home water of LSC is open and boats are out. The upper Mississippi R still has ice on it above Brainerd at Mom and Dad's house, but it's on it's way.
Here in western WA we don't freeze. I've not seen hard water in a good few years. |

Location: Minnesota | Tacklebooty - Northern Minnesota may have more than a week or two to go. Still driving trucks on the lakes ice fishing up here. And we just got dumped on over the weekend and now have about 2 feet of snow on some of our muskie lakes. The snow actually may help the ice go out with all of the wet heavy snow weighting the ice down and pushing water up on top. |

| The ice has been off the lakes around here for about a month now and ive been fishing a couple times. The weather has been very nice with lots of 50s and 60s and even some 70s.
Hope the ice and snow up north goes away soon.

Location: Lake Vermilion Tower, MN | We'll be lucky to be fishing open water by the Walleye opener up here on Lake Vermilion. We just got 21 inches of snow over the weekend. Still more than 30 inches of ice to melt, along with all that snow.
Highs in the low 40's for the next week and more snow.
With only 4 weeks to go until our fishing
opener, I'm not very optomistic. I'm just hoping it's gone by the Muskie opener in June.

| Minoccqua and Big Arbor Vitae in northern WI had well over 30" of ice on them 1+ weeks ago. It'll be interesting to see if the ice is gone on all lakes in northern WI by the 5/3 opener (not for musky...this year). |

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | We drove about 17 miles of trolling yesterday....had to dodge some 'bergs, but otherwise the lakes on the (beautiful) Fox Chain were clear of ice by the end of the day. Was in Madison on Saturday, saw what looked like a LOT of ice on whichever lake is on the coast of the U.
*and btw, fishing sucked yesterday. nary a rip. |

Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | Was up at my place in Land O Lakes this past weekend. Our lake had 28-30" of ice easy. I was darn near the auger handles. About 8-10" of snow on top of that yet as well. I will say that the only thing that looked promising was that the first 12" of ice looked to be honeycombing pretty well. |

Locally around Chippewa Falls, the rivers are open some lakes have started around shore, but there is a LOT of ice to go yet. |

Ditto....I've put the pier in the same day the ice sank (literally). That's been the friday before the walleye opener. Warm weather is coming next week, but will it be enough to melt the 16-20" we could get on the Wis/Mich boarder...then the 26-30" of ice under it? We'll see, but you gotta have faith. |
