Dual Console?

Subject: Dual Console?

I have a question for you guys who fish out of a dual console-

Where do you lay your rods? I always have at least a couple rods layed out on the front deck for quick access, but unless you are fishing out of a Crestliner Fish Hawk, or a Pro-V LE, I don't know of any other dual console boat that you can lay an 8 foot rod down flat on the deck.

So do you only have one rod out of the locker when you're fishing?

When you move from spot to spot, where do you put your rod? It seems like a pain in the behind to have to put it away in a locker every single time you move.

Please help me understand what you do with your rods, my Wife wants a dual console on our next boat, and I need to figure this out.

thanks

Others will have more experience with this than I, but I thought I'd mention that I fished out of a Starcraft STX last fall that had tubes built into the front of the passenger console so you could lay rods on the front deck. Don't know about their smaller boats, and I didn't think much of this boat as a strictly musky machine, but I thought this was a great inovation, and could be rigged into other boats.

I like that RAM mount holder. Sweet idea.

JGD,

Lambeau's RAM mount is pretty nice. However, if you're like me, I HATE drilling holes anywhere in our boat. We own a 1850 Fishhawk dual console. You're right, the extra console makes keeping rods out somewhat tricky. When I am fishing a spot and have extra rods I take the rods and reverse them so that the tips are pointing at the console (like Lambeau's picture) and lay them in the little crevice next to the console and the gunwhale. This little nook is plenty big for fitting a few rods there. When we are zipping between spots in calm to medium chop I leave them as is, but usually pull them back so that less of the rod is laying across that "nook" (reduces chances of rods bouncing out of boat). In heavy chop or if we are traveling long distances, I flip the rods around, shove the butt sections under the "nook," and lay the rods flat across the deck.

If I had access to our boat right now I would take pictures of how I do it. In any case, you can do it without having to buy extra things, drill holes, etc.
