Sharping Hooks?

Subject: Sharping Hooks?

While walking thru Fleet Farm last night I came across a Dremel hand tool that had enough accesories to build a church. One of those accessories was a sharping stone. I started to think of all the time I have spent sharping hooks by hand and I was wondering if anyone has tried sharping their hooks with a Dremel?? I guess I am afraid of "rounding off" more hooks than sharping them. Any suggestions?

I had an electric sharpener for a while, but went back to a high quality small file. The electric can take off too much metal pretty quickly. I've found that once the hooks are really sharp, an occassional touch up with the file is all that's necessary. A tip I learned, from JeffB I think, is to paint the just-sharpened hook with a permanent marker to prevet corossion (sp!) of the bare metal. Hope this is helpful!

I've been using a Dremel for sharpening Muskie hooks for a few years now. It works great, but as Ranger says, it can very easily take off too much...you need to be careful. I would really recommend it if you have a lot of hooks to sharpen at one time.
