| Can anyone ID this noise?
When I start my 225 OPTI when its cold, I get a scraping, rattling noise while its in nuetral but the noise only lasts for 10 seconds or so. When I put it in gear the noise is gone, then I put it back in nuetral, I get the rattling noise again, but like I said it goes away. Once the motor is warmed up no more noise. If I let it sit for a while, the noise comes back for a few seconds. But there is no noise until I start shifting it in and out of gear, like we all do when we back up and drive away from our trailers.
I never heard the noise until November last year, then I forgot about it and when I started it this past weekend on the river it did it again.
I tried explaining it to a Merc dealer tech today and he had no idea, so I thought this site might be help me. I would hate to see the motor break down when I need it this summer.
Food for thought, is there any bearings that could be getting bad in nuetral?

Location: Stevens Point, WI | A noise like that could a be a lot of different things I'd imagine. I'd try to get it in to let a mechanic listen to it. That's if your that worried about it. It may just be the cold weather though.
