My bowmount Garmin locater had problems last year keeping fixed on the bottom. Somtimes it would flash the last depth read or give a reading I KNEW was not right. Looking at the bottom of the transducer, i noticed that is has some deep scratches on the bottom of it from retrieving baits out of rocks on LOTW two years ago.

I'm wondering if the problems I've been having are b/c of those scratches. Has anyone ever sanded the bottom of their transducer? Will doing so wreck the transducer?

Thanks in advance,

Rick

I'm presently installing a Lowrance puck transducer to the bilge of my boat. Directions say to sand with 100 grit sandpaper on the bottom of the puck and the interior of the bilge where it will be epoxy-ed, then remove the sanding grit with rubbing alcohol before applying the eposxy. Does that help? m

Cowboy, I would rather place a coating of epoxy to fill in the scratches of your transducer rather than sand it. Why Mikie needed to sand his is because he was setting his transducer in epoxy and on a smooth surface you will not get a bond and it may (over time) come loose and you don't want that.
