Winter Wish List Results?

Most of us musky nuts survive the winter by adding a few NEW and not so needed lures to the box. Curious which one''s were worth the expense and which one''s should have stayed on the shelf?

Here is how my wish list turned out:

Slammer Deep Divers [:)]
Manta [:(]
Jointed Baby Raider [:((]
Straight Baby Raider [8)]
10" Big Fork Pulsator [:((]

Not that the [:((] are no good... they just didn''t produce fish for me yet. This especially holds true for the Manta. I think the bait looks great, but I can''t buy a fish with it.

What''s been your experience with those compulsive winter purchases?

“Surfo” topper – A few muskie follows, turns out to be a great bass bait.
Gold Husky jerk- caught two small ones with it this year.
Red & Black/gold “floating” bucktail – great northern action with it this spring. My son cleaned up with it. It is now too kinked to use.
Skimmer Bucktail black/gold – annual replacement, always have a couple in the boat.
Manta- orange tiger- a few follows, have not lost confidence though, another excellent northern bait for me – they haven’t had a problem hitting it.

It’s only August, and you have me thinking muskie shows already.
Oh by the way, man is it dam hot!

chicka-d[]
9" grandma[:)]
Super Shad Rap[:)]
Topraider[:((]
Dancin Raider[:((]

The two "raiders" look great but the only fish that seem to notice are bass. I am sure it is only a matter of time before I like them better.

Phantom: was about to SWAP-RAMA it[:knockout:] [:(] , but then said "i'll give this one more try..." and had 2 follows in 10 minutes[]
Squirko[:0] -->I definitly don't have the patience for these guys, too much Red Bull!!!
Magnum Cisco BullDawg: bought it about a month ago, but big fish love to chase it, no hookers yet, but soon! Has pushed its way into the top 10 baits

I didnt get to much muskie stuff this winter. I ordered a lot of prism burts amd squirrley burts. I cant really rate the prism burts, i havent really used them. I really like the squirrley burts, but i have 2 that wont run for jack. i also got 600yrds of ripcord that has definately gave me a big
[]

All I can say is i am thankful there is a rollie and helens.

Probably the best gift given to me this year had been a pearl tuff shad. This has been a awesome lure.

You are right slamr the one problem with chicka-d's is that they don't last, but I caught a couple muskie, caught a bunch of pike and lost a few muskie before mine was completely toast. I am thinking about trying a Musky Candy bucktail to see if it is a more durable burning bucktail.

I got so many new baits that some I have no clue as to what they are.[8)]

Here is a list of the ones I know:

TR twitcher: works great but only one follow but from a shovel head ( much bigger then a 50 ) with limited use so far. [:0]

Blitzin shad: caught 2 fish first time out and got a big fish tooth on the second. []

Manta: don't own one but saw a client boat a 42 inch muskie a 34 inch pike and 26 inch walleye and other follows in 2 days. [:praise:]

Mystery bait( could be an undertaker ): got 2 follows at one time on it's first time out. [:praise:]

The trials will continue over the summer. If some of those mystery baits produce good you will see me going around the Chicago muskie show looking for duplicates. []

Well this is my conclusion so far, but like most bait I dont like or dont care for, I spend some time on them in the winter and cure thier blues.

Slammer Shad Deep Diver[][] [] New style with shorter but bigger profile, great propwash bait at high speed.

Slammer Deep Diver[] [] Worked great last year, this year too its a winner in my boat.

Jerko[:p] [:)] Like the Squirko better, but iits a close second.

Squirko[] [;)] Love the bait, cant wait to stick a good pig this fall on one.

Marv's Spinnerbaits[] [8)] Run True and catch fish, what else to you need.

Two old 9" Grandma's (he,he)[] Work awesome, they should they are the old ones.

ChickEDees, [] [:praise:] [:praise:] Is a hot bucktail for me this year.

Musky Buster topwaters[:p] [;)] [:praise:] client, did very well on these.

TR Twitcher[:(] [:blackeye:] not my style, works, but just not me.

Manta[:knockout:] [:blackeye:] Swings to far out, makes the muskies dizzy.

Squirrly burts[] []Best Slop bait I have ever used, bar none.

Slammer Creeping Tom[:praise:] Sound good, no fish yet, like the jointed the best.

Slammer Thunderheads[:praise:]My new ones worked good

New Slammers with new lip design[] [:praise:] [:praise:]Go Deeper and troll better, with a slower rise.

Violent Strike spinnerbaits,[:praise:] Wish I had some.

Custom Dog Turd[:praise:], Worrall will never let me buy one.

My new Custom, 5" Pig, modified Flaptail,[] Awesome!, and that was Worrall's response.

Sugartails, Run really nice, well built and absolutly no complaints.[]

New Grandma's,[:praise:] Have not had much time on them, but they do troll and twitch good.

I forgot one:

Undertakers(shallow) [] [] These run on top fast or two feet down real slow. Best spring bait in my box.

Undertakers(double wieghted)[] [] [] A little more wieght changes everything, this one your can go side to side, stop and drop the head of the bait and then start up again. The change up from side to side to the drop, makes them eat everytime.

All 25 of them can go back on the shelf.[:((]
oh well I'll just keep plugging away.

shallow sledge [:((]absolutely useless as a casting lure

dancin shad(6")[]versatile and travels all planes

dancin shad (9") [:knockout:] too abrupt on the turn. the dud predictor gives it a 9 on the dudometer scale of duddness

topraiders [:(] one follow, two topraiders, two years and given too much primetime with no results, the tallywhackers still have it
in my boat

baby shallow raiders [:)] these little crap baits are actually quite fascile and i will not be surprised if they produce. have not had much chance to use them but they do some unique things, and i would guess the slower the better, maybe a bucher bait that actually will produce fish

dancin raider [:0] just what i need, another bait to make them jump out of the water

believers[:knockout:] these really suck unless you are in Canada(and i am just taking canada on faith LOL)

Still up, been up for 3 hours now, and just perusing old threads, thought this one might be a goodie just before this show season!
Cause I type fast, and have nothing else to do, here's my review of the new additions to the box in 2002:

Ukko 9": had given up on it, trolled it a 7MPH, and got some big rips, will hook them soon[:)]
Pearsons Plug (bigger): big surprise bait, only got to use it one day, but runs smmooooth []
Shallow Dawg: bulges to the surface going anything but really slow, hard to keep down even in the 1-2ft range, but guessing a little bell sinker and she's set.[::)]
Musky Mania Doc: had a crackage problem with one, but MMT sent me a replacement and a free one, so that was good....glides smooth, easy and a little deeper in the water. Though it may not replace the venerable "Crunch N' Munch" (go-to Jackpot) it definitely gets to stay in the rotation (probably second string) [:)]
