I'm doing a pike/walleye trip this summer w/ the fam...wondering if anyone has had good luck for big pike on double 10's in Ontario?
It will be mid august so I'm not sure if the Pike will be too shallow / weed related that time of year but just thought I'd check...
thanks for any input.

Last year in Ontario my biggest pike came from the same types of area where we were seeing muskie.

I know of a 46" pike that was caught on one of my double 10's. It wasn't in Ontario but it was a big fat Pike.

Had good success on the DC9 on the Goon. Pike loved that thing.

I caught quite a few pike on a particular double #8 shumway flasher up on Eagle last year, first week of August. And Troy's double #10 Dinnerbell was a pretty good up there during that time too.

Nailed a bunch of big pike last year on Nungesser lake (By Red Lake) with some prototype double #10 Dominatrix lures. First 5 minutes got a 38 inch pike. The biggest on a double #10 was my buddy with a 42 inch but our biggest, a 47.5 inch came on a Perch Thriller Suick.

We boated a fair number of pike to 41" last year on Greg Peterson's AC-10. They seemed to be as stupid on them as on any other spinner that gets their suicide attempt. Greg just happened to drop off a half dozen or so to get rid of. Drop me an email, Brad, if you don't already have too many of a similar product.

Tacklebooty, at Kevin's camp that Suick is unbeatable At his brother's place too, down river. The ice will be off late this spring which normally gets us a few good pike casting muskies early July. Last year it was off early and we still got some nice ones, so who knows lol. Last year we didn't get a single pike shorelunch all summer. That's really odd. We saw fewer pike but the ones we got were 34 to 40 inches, which was nice. Yep, big bucktails got a coulple, but so did #5 Vibrax (the biggest fish on this one) and surface baits. That's a sweet deal when you're getting good pike mixed in with the muskies and other fish. Some years where we fish you're jigging or trolling for big pike by late June/early July, but not lately. Maybe climate change. Blue/silver Cowgirl was a good DC. Lake Nipssing the water's dirty where we fish and pink/white/silver in the 15" bootail with #10's was good.

Oh yah, most of the time the pike were in the cabbage and rocks in 14 to 17 feet of water and we cast up into spots from 20' or deeper. French River the water stays in the mid-sixties to low 70's from July til late Sept most years, and the nicer ones we found on Nip were very shallow (less than 10 feet) but in a spot where the water was 65, rest of the spots were 70+. Most of the pike on spinners took them real deeply, on slow retrieves down thru the weeds. Hit a weed, blade skips a beat, feel it spin again then the line would go slack, they'd suck it in from the back. A couple fish in early July were still dinged up from spawning and didn't fight real well, but the biggest one went nuts and broke water twice like a muskie would and was clean as a whistle. Hope ONT's good to you on your trip man.

Dacron + Dip, We like Brett's place but Kevin's place is so much nicer for cabins. Awesome pike! Big as muskies! We have a ball there every year. Those boats Kevin has are great too.

Kev's got the big walleye too. His regular guest boats are the guide boat at the other camp, great rigs. One time on Little V I caught 27 walleyes off the dock after supper on 27 casts. The streak ended with a 42" pike lol. If you ever get a chance for a fly-in to Warrington L., Mantricia L. or especially Cobham L., jump on it. The fishing can be silly. Some great whitefish and lake trout up that way too.

I want to do a fly in with Brett and go for some of those Lake Trout! Did well in Bretts camp for walleye but better over at Kevin's. Both are top notch fishing spots! Brett just need to update the cabins and get some of those 18 foot Lunds with the 50h Hondas like Kevin.

Can't wait for this year to take some new double #10s and double #13s for pike. Will be fun to see if they like the double #13s. Last few years we stayeing in Kevins cabin. We really roughed it with high speed internet and a 42inch plasma out on an island in the middle of nowhere! LOL

That's awesome!! The 1oz JSM can be the best deal a lot up there, sweet for the C&R. If you want drive-to lake trout, send me an email man. No fly-ins or 50lbers, but lots of fish from 10 to 20lbs and the scenery's just as good. I fish about 26 hours S of Red Lake, as the Trans-Can flies, anyway lol. [email protected] This is not a solicitation, no monies will be changing hands nor do we need to move the thread to the Classifieds lol.

I got a 42.5 inch Northern on Milles Lacs with a double cow girl. About 10 minutes later I caught a 6-8lb Nortern on the DCG. I haven't caught a lot of northerns on the DCG but when I do they are decent sized. My wife and I catch most of our northerns on Ace Bait spinners.
