Being quite new to the game and do not yet have a net I was wondering what net I should buy. What is the minimum as far as nets go that I should look at? I would love to get a really good one but with the wife not woking right now money is an issue. I just want to have something in my boat with the opener coming up soon.

I have a Frabill Powercatch - one size down from the Big Kahuna. I really like the net a lot. Big enough to handle big fish, small enough to not take up a ton of room. You can get the one with the triangular shaped handle which is nice if you don't leave the handle extended (I usually leave it extended anyway) for about $120. I think the round handle version with the same net bag sells for something like $90. Probably won't find a good quality net for much less than that.

Another vote for the Frabill Powercatch.

I'll second that. The Beckman nets are good nets too, and I'm sure there'll be plenty of posts in favor of the Beckman. I had a Beckman but got a Frabill to use instead and don't conseder it a waste of money - I like the Frabill that much.

Yup get the Frabill with the triangle handle and power yoke. It just prevents the net from spinning on the handle if you happen to not get a round handled net not popped in all the way. Worth every $119 of it.

I like my Beckman Fin saver for its' maneauverability when fishing alone, and for the wife. That said, I feel the Frabill net mesh material is definately tougher/thicker nowadays(the mesh has gotten thinner and easier to break on the Beckmans it seems, since Lindy took over, though they've been very good to me in getting a replacement promptly to my door), and both options should be looked at depending on your style/preferences. I love the size of the Beckman bag and the shape of the pen, along with the small holes which really cut down on damage to fish, as well. If Frabill made a 'square' type pen, similar to the size I prefer, I'd strongly consider.

I've got a big beckman and the big kahuna by Frabill, like them both...the beckman is easier to maneuver if you fish solo much..the big kahuna is the net that goes to MN and Canada ... can't go wrong with either brand, check them both out and see what you like

kahuna is large to deal with in the boat, but you will be glad you have it when you get a 50"er at boatside
