Location: WI | Which one should I buy? I've heard nothing but good things about the S.C. Tournament Legend rod but a smilar rated (lure wt and length) Musky Innovations rod is about $100 cheaper. I plan on using it for big jerks and rubber stuff. Reel will be a Okuma Induron. |

| st croix makes an awesome rod for sure, but i see no reason spending 100 dollars extra since the M.I. rod is pretty sweet as well. you cant go wrong either way, but i would save the extra 100 bucks for a weekend fishing trip |

| The big difference aside from the price is that St. Croix aswell as most anyother heavy duty rod out there, that being G-Loomis, etc. all have 9 rod guides, thus there is more space between each one. I particularily like that Musky Innovations rods all have 11 guides, leaving less chance for the line to rub on the rod and to allow for a more controlled and longer more efficient cast. Another great thing, and I do love St. Croix, but I personally can tell you that MI makes a totally durable rod! Both great rods...It's up to the individual. |

| St Croix with their new design has allowed them to make a graphite rod blank that can handle heavy baits without adding material. Big thing without adding material is that is keeps the weight of the stick down.
Many of us have seen the demo on Musky Hunter TV where Saric was unable to break the small piece of blank....I spent some time talking to the St Croix guys at the Blaine show and did the same demo. I was unable to break it and it made me a believer. As far as performance, I would have a hard time steering people away from the quality and new design of the Legend series (or 4 Series for us custom rod builders). This series is worth the price. It is not just a name they marketing but a better design. I could explain more about the design but my post might get to long.
Nice work St Croix.

| Apples and oranges. Both will get the job done though. The Croix is almost twice the price , but for good reasons. Get the best your budget will allow. In my opinion, the 8'6" is the best production "Big Bait" rod available today. A little birdy told me that there may be a new 8'6" blank available in a couple months in both the Legend Tournament and the Premier. Ohhh boy!!! A slightly softer tip than the current model, absolutely ideal for big blades. And.... good news for custom guys as these will be able to be built out to 9+ like the Big Dawg.Rock On!!! Is it June yet???? Steve |

That is great to hear. I was hoping that they come out with a 8'6" in the Premier line up. The Legends are a little out of my price range. Do you know what the lure weight will be on the new 8'6" rods? |
