Location: Hayward, WI | The 7'6" and 8' Okuma H rods are rated for 2-6 ounce baits. How well do these baits cast lighter baits like Mepps Musky Marabous and the light model Rad Dogs (both baits just over 1 ounce)?
My Dad is looking to get a new rod, and I'm not sure what to recommend to him being on a budget. He doesn't fish a LOT, so the rod needs to be fairly forgiving (meaning it has be easy to cast relatively light baits without backlashes). I have a 8' Gander Tournament that casts those lighter baits well, but I hear they discontinued that line.
The other rod would be the 7'6" or 8' Shimano Compre in H, rated for 1 1/2-3 ounce baits. That should cast the lighter stuff well, but I wanted a rod that could throw baits at least as heavy as Weagles and Regular Dawgs with too (~5 ounce baits).
Anyway, would the H rated Okuma throw the somewhat lighter stuff well, or is there too little tip bend to cast these baits easily? He wouldn't be interested in the 8'6" rod, 8' is as long as he'll go.
