I'll try to explain this so somebody can understand it.

I have a 1990 or 1991 Tuffy, 18 foot tiller. The side walls are thin fiberglass with a alum cap or trim piece on the top. I'm thinking I need to have some sort of "rail" fabricated that I can bolt thru the side of the boat. I want to use the metal rod holders (salty?) and I need to have a rail to bolt them to. My Ranger has the rail, thats the set up I want to use. I don't like the clamp style.

So does anybody understand what I'm saying? Does it make any sense? Anybody have any idea's?

If you have something that works please post a photo!!

Tuffy uses a set of 30" or 60" rails that can literally bolt through the hull, capped with chrome.

Perfect!!!!!!!

Do I order them through Tuffy direct or do you have a dealer for me to go through?

Call Laurie at 800.359.4416. Ask her to price the rails and hardware.

i had those on my 1760 GT (no fiberglass cap, just the plastic/rubber over the top of the gunnel like you describe on your boat).
they worked great for rail-mount rod-holders.
be sure to ask one of the technicians at Tuffy for advice on proper mounting location. try and mount them as high up on the side of the boat as possible.

i'd also suggest you consider rod holders that include a piece that lifts the rod higher than the standard mounts.
since the rails will be mounted inside the gunnel of your boat, you'll want a bit more elevation with your holder to get your rod high enough to angle it down to get the tip in the water if desired. rod holders that are too short will mean your rods will bump the gunnel and not have enough down-angle to get under the surface of the water.
