Was on I-39 yesterday and saw that lake suel's ice was 75% gone. Woke up to day and decided to go do a little casting. Water temp was 38', ice should be completely gone by mid week.

Deep follow from shore? There are spots from shore you can't cast to 4ft of water. Fished it a few times, never caught one, they have to be in there, way more fish have been stocked in it than carlton and they are the same acreage.

No I had the boat out. For a small lake there is a ton of shad in there. The boat launch had 2 dead one's, and out on the lake there were another 5 or 6 half dead on the surface.

The shad are unbelievable in there. My first time there we had 30mph winds so i did not launch because there was not a dock in and i did not want to beat the boat up on the rip rap. We casted the windy side and had very few casts that did not come back with shad impaled on the hooks, many casts with multiple sad on them.

Ive seen fish in there many times and we have put some in the boat. The fish we caught were 32 inches and smaller. My buddy lost a really nice one about 5 years ago. She was in the low to mid 40's. Other than that one, only seen one other fish that I thought was over 40 inches in many trips out there over the years.

Is Suel the pit lake in the NW corner of I-39 / I-88 junction near Rochelle?

Yes, it's the pit lake in the corner of I39 and I88. In fact, one day while fishing out there I watched a guy crash exiting westbound on I88 from heading southbound on I39. Got to love Illinois fishing - can't see that in Canada!!
