I have a couple smaller fish caught on the spring dawg and hooked up both times. If I remember correctly one was hooked on the top single hook and the other on the treble. The fish just 'sucked it in' on the first half of the retrieve, no crushing hits so I don't know if that makes difference on hook ups. Both times it felt like I just snagged some loose weeds and took me by suprise. I changed out the treble to slightly larger size and a little longer shank.
That's my limited experience with them... Hope it helps.

In my experience, getting them hooked up isn't a problem, getting them unhooked can be. They inhale the things. Definitely one lure that I like to fish w/ the barbs pinched down.

Be careful with the spring Dawgs because the muskies will suck them down to there gills, only use them in early spring when muskies are not up to speed yet. Even on the 9" Dawgs I will take the back treble hooks off when the muskies are sucking them down hard.

I find myself doing that more and more. 99% of the plstics fish I hook are hooked on the single, the treble turns out to be a trouble, and usually gets cut anyhow.
