| I'm looking for some input on the Tica Musky rods.
My rod storage is 7'6 and I would like to get a 8' or 8'6 rod to throw large bucktails and bulldawgs. These rods look like a great option, I'm just wondering if there are any problems with the telescopic feature and can they handle large baits?
Or is an 8 to 8'6 rod necessary to throw cow girls and mag dawgs or is there a rod out there at 7'6 (not the 7'9 XXXH SC because it too long) that can handle up to 8 ounce lures? Ticas are rated 2-8 oz.
I looked at a 7'6" XH fast action Shimano Compre the other day and it seemed like a nice rod for the money. Would they hold up to he test? I would like to stay under $150.
Lots of questions!
Thanks for your time.

| After tinkering with them a bit, I am really fond of the Okuma rods. I've got an 8'6" H to match the XH I got a few weeks ago. SUPER rod for the money. Telescopic musky rod? whooda thunk it..? |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | Go with the TICA 8' or 8'6" in the 2-8 oz both rods will go down under 7' for storage. The TICA rods are very light and well balance and cost around $120.00 retail. I have 4 TICA RODS 2- 8' rods and 2- 8'6" rods, great rods to travel on air planes, will fit in a 7' rod case. Tica will have a mag dawg rod out soon, can't wait for them. |

Pikemaster,
If you could only buy one Tica rod, either 8' or 8'6" in the 2 to 8 oz, which would you buy? What reel do you use on you Tica's?
Thanks |

Location: Sandusky, OH | Not Pikemaster, but I have an 8' XH that I really like, and I use it for a variety of baits. If double 10s and bulldawgs were to be my only use, I'd probably opt for the longer rod. I have a Penn 975 on my Tica.

Location: Eau Claire,WI | I like Tica rods,in fact I got an 8'er today.I have the 8'6" version and used it late last year with great results.I first tried Tica's when I was on Mille Lacs last fall,Lee Tauchen uses them and I had to try it.Good thing I did,i got my first ever figure 8 fish on it! Too cool!!! I picked one up shorthly there after...I managed a couple of fish on it,one 40".It handled all Dawgs,Double 10 and Pounders like a dream. I fish alone most of the time and the 8'6" is kinda hard to maneuver in one hand and a net in the other.LOL I hope the 8 will be better....
Should have noted both rods are telescopic and XH

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | For top water and jerk baits I use the 8' for Double10,13 & SUPER D DAWGS I will use the 8'6". I use SHIMANO CALCUTTA TE with a TRINIDAD TN12 POWERHANDLE. The 8'6 is my go to rod. Can't wait for TICA to come out with a XXH, hope they will come in a 9'. |
