Has anyone figured out what line will work best with non-levelwind saltwater reels? Larger diameter, round lines best...maybe heavy mono? What braided line has large round diameter? I normally use ultracast, but that's pretty thin...concerned about backlashes.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance...

The rounder the better. Cortland Bronzeback is a good round braid.

I'm considering trying some 30 or 50 pound mono or floro on my Torium. Not sure how that will work, but I'll give it a try.

Baldy, go to 60# Seguar, and it will work like a champ. We use it on light saltwater reels a lot, and have zero issues with it.
The other thing that you can do, is beef up your backer with 30-50# hard mono like Damyl, or Maxima and fill out with 120 yards of Bronzeback or another solid braid.
Personally, I don't mind the way that mono/fluoro fishes bucktails, topwaters and some cranks. However, I DON'T like it for jerkbaits or Weagles at all. Far too much streatch, and just not enough feel.

Daiwa Samural 100# - .50/.020 --- 8/weave design, the best round line you can buy. I use some last fall on a 16n Shimano and very few birdnest and will not wear out, like some other braids.

my main concern is how well the heavier mono or floro will cast.

How does the 60# Seguar cast?

You're certainly not going to pile out 200' castsm but you'll be able to cast an average D10/weagle 80-100' with no problem at all. It does take some getting used to, after switching over from braids, and the like; but it really isn't terrible. it does have a lot of memory, but that isn't such a big deal when it comes right down to it.

Here is the link to their page:

I'm not able to find any 60# line...only leader material that comes in 25 yd spools.

I feel like I'm missing something here.

I've tried the Suffix, and was quite pleased. It has a round diameter & seems to hold less water. When I was down in Florida the salt guys were raving about it. Hope this helps.

On a side note.... I did get a green thumb from the dye..LOL

Nah, you aren't missing anything we'll pop a shock of 60# on Jinkai Mono. I guess I was relating overall casting, and the way that heavy mono casts. Segaur is our leader/shock material. Jinkai is the mono. My bad.
If you want full fluoro at that diameter, I believe that Izorline is the only company making a co-polymer in service or ponies.

I put the Suffix 80# on my new reel and have liked it so far. It seem to be larger and more round than the other braids that were on the shelf at Gander.
