The North Metro Chapter of Muskies Inc. is organizing a clean up effort on Lake Independence this Saturday beginning at 11:00. We've got a large number of anglers who use this lake, and we're making an effort to give something back by picking up the garbage left behind by anglers using the lake this winter. If you have a few hours available this Saturday, please come and join us. We're meeting at the ramp in Baker Park at 11:00. Bring your shovels, ice picks, and any other tools you might find useful to help dig out and pick up the trash from the lake. We'll have garbage bags available.

We'd appreciate as much help as we can get, so please come out and join us, even if it's just for a couple of hours.

Thanks,

Eric Elwer

Thank you to everyone who showed up today to help with the clean up effort on Lake Independence. We had a crew of 12-15 that ended up filling half of a dumpster with garbage collected from the lake in just over two hours. All in all it was a rewarding day, and for those who participated, it's certain to bring good musky karma during the coming season.

On behalf of the North Metro Chapter, thanks again for your help.

Nice work, guys. Thanks for the effort! Amazing that much trash can be picked up off the lake in only 2 hours. Imagine what the bottoms of our lakes must look like. Pretty sad. The Brainerd Lakes Chapter is planning a similar effort this spring on Gull Lake. This will happen after the ice goes out. We'll actually have scuba divers diving to pick up trash on one portion of the lake. I guess one of the divers has said that there is so much trash down there that it will be no problem filling a commercial sized dumpster from this area.
