| Hello,
I just bought a Daiwa 47LC for trolling muskies. I have boughten
Berkley Whiplash #100 and also Power Pro #100. Are either of these lines
good to use for trolling baits like Believer and deep trolling baits down to 30 and 50 feet. Or any suggestions to what line I should use. Any information would be appreciated.
Thank You,
Randy[:p] | |

| Randy: Your superlines will work, but keep the drag loose enough so that the non-stretch lines don't rip the hooks out. For the "deep" fishing, I use wire line, but that is a whole other ball game. It can be tricky to use, and you should "learn" from someone who has used/is using it before you try it and get frustrated and/or loose a big fish. On my high lines, I use braided dacron in 45 pound test.
Muskie regards,

| rpkoran,
The Wiplash or PowerPro in 100 lb test will work great for the bigger crankbaits; Legend "Plows",Hookers,Perrywinkles, they will get to 30 feet without having to use a lot of line. But,when it comes to Depthraiders,Ernies, the medium size deep divers it will take well a lot of line with powerbraid and you still may not get any deeper then about 20 to 25 feet, depending on speed and current if present.Such a long line is hard to keep on structure or to control to make wholesale changes of direction on baitschools etc.For open water presentations where you are mostly just trying to get depth and run more straight patterns, wire would be a better option for getting deep with less line out.Wire will allow you to get more depth out of your crankbaits, you can feel every movement from the crankbaits action to the head shakes that feel like they are right at your hands when one is hooked and thrashing.I like 30 lb test Monel wire. Now if your going to follow iregular structure or make many right angle turns,Leadcore in 45 lb test is the better for deep close to the boat controled presentations.Leadcore tracs where the boat went,so it is easy to just follow structure with your depth sounder and the line will follow on the same path.It is color coded ,every 10 yards or 30 feet,to make it easy to know how far the relationship of your crankbait to the boat is.No matter what line you use,you need to know exactly the distance and depth that your crankbaits are from the boat at all times, this is the only way that you will be able to place your baits exactly in the strike zone every time.Be careful with fishing below 35 feet durring the warm water periods of the Summer, the fish may not be able to survive the stress of coming from those depths so quickly if the water tempratures are in the high 70's and up.If I can help you with more details, feel fre to give me an e-mail.

| I got my 47C's loaded with 100 pound power pro and they work great. Now remember it's not even 20 pound mono diameter. You might want to use 80 or 65 pound test if you want to get deeper but I believe that with the right lure you can get it down 30' no problem with the 100# test. Make sure you use a long leader when trolling the deep.[:sun:] | |
