Hi all looking for a lil bit of help. Just doing some basic airbrushing to start, and am looking for an affordable aircompressor that is also good.

Also wondering what is best for clearcoating the bait after painting.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I've got one of those little Paashe air compressors that I'd be willing to sell pretty cheap. I've gone with a big one now and just trip over this one.

The best clear to start with would be Envirotex Lite. You can find it at most True Value and Maynards stores.

Hi there, I no expert by any means when it comes to airbrushing but I would buy the biggest compressor you can afford for two reasons. Some of the smaller one won't put out enough pressure for all paints. The bigger the compressor the less it runs. When it comes to finishes I agree with Muskie Treats, I use Envirotex Lite. Some guys use Epoxy as it dries faster and if your only doing a bait or two that works best. If you use Envirotex Lite you will need a drying wheel as it takes several hours for E L to set up. If you don't rotate the baits the E L will all sag to one end. Also when mixing any of these finishes make sure you use equal parts of each componant. I use throw away syringes that I get at a Vet Clinic for around $0.40 ea. I mark them so I use the same syringe for the hardner and the same syringe for the Resin everytime. If you don't do this the E L will set up in the syringe. I hope this helps you out. If you use Epoxy for a top coat make sure you don't use the 5 minute kind as it yellows later on. I apply my topcoat with acid brushes that I use and discard. They can be cleaned but the acetone is expensive and very flammable so I just toss them. If you use Envirotex Lite, when you mix it you tend to get alot of air bubbles mixed in. To get rid of these bubbles just gently exhale on the mixture and this will help to get rid of the bubbles. Always make sure to read all instruction and take all necessary precautions when using these products. Make sure to have adequate ventilation. Any questions feel free to ask or PM me. Thanks Ken

If your just getting started I would try a Badger Cresendo airbrush kit. Comes with several different needle sizes, so you can see which you would like better. For a compressor you can get a decent one from home hardware stores for under $100. For cleares I would try my first baits with Rustolem gloss spray Lacqure before you get into building drying wheels etc. For paints and airbrushes checkout any craft type stores or dixiearet.com. There might be a compatability issue with the Rustolem and certain paints; just have to experiment.
