Location: north west wisconsin | So my wife just saw how much the Cady Weagle was going for on e-bay and the first question out of her was "wheres your tackle box?" ....
What are some of the things you tell your "other half" to justify some of the prices we pay for musky fishing?

Location: On your favorite spot | My Dad is a very straightforward and honest man. A pastor of 25 years, deeply religious. However, every time we'd buy some fishing stuff, we'd come in through the garage and put it right in the boat. "She doesn't ask and I don't tell" or "Your mother doesn't really need to know about that"
............
Considering marriage, my girlfriend asks "are we going to share our accounts and finances?"
"Most of them sweetie, most of them." I'm gonna keep my account named 'Thorne Bros' in my name only.
...........
For all the fishing time with my Dad you'd think I'd have been served with a few sermons over the years, but by far, hands down, without a doubt, the best advice ever recieved on the water: "You got women, you got problems."
Off subject, the only time I've EVER heard my Dad use any foul language was on the boat when we were musky fishing. Sometimes that just brought it out of him. Good memories......
Lucky to have a woman that knows her way around Thorne as well as anybody.

Odds are that on Monday night I will be spending the evening /night until dawn before emerging to sneak off to labor camp in the crawl space with my Lava light and ash-tray. Location: Long Prairie, Minnesota | She don't ask, I don't tell........a box comes, she puts it on the counter, i come home from work and take it to my dwelling in the basement. Open it down there so she doesn't know the exact number of lures I bought, just that I bought "some" lures. She understands that I am die hard musky and that is just how it is going to be. Somtimes she calls me retarded when I am musky 24/7, but she understands! I have the greatest wife in the world. When she buys herself things, it is no big deal to me and I feel she deserves it for letting me stock up on tackle. And as my brother says...."It is always easier to ask for forgiveness than it is for permission!!!!" |

Have fun!

If you start out with things for yourself only, and try to "make it up" to her, you will never be percieved to catch up! |

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | I don't have issues at all with my wife on purchases for my own well being. First and foremost, we run 3 checkbooks. One for me, One for her, and one for paying the bills. We each get a two week allowance that stays in our own checkbooks, the rest goes to the joint for bills, groceries, gas, joint purchases, etc. So...if she goes and buys something, it's out of her money...just like when I purchase something, it comes out of my money.
Extremely simple, and it is stress free since there is no hassle over money.
Been doing it ever since we got together 11 years ago, and it has never caused any issues whatsoever.
So...when I go to the toy store and purchase a few "needed" items, she cannot question it...and vice-versa.

Pretty much how my wife is, but I can guarantee you that the first baits in my box that were pink, were hers. NOW, I buy a LOT of pink baits, and she's on a black craze. She also keeps the boat clean(er that I do), and chews me out when I don't clean it to her standards. This past year after the accident, I had never seen a woman on such a rampage as having her custom Loomis rods at the bottom of the drink. She wasn't concerned a bit for my safety, only her rods.(I say that in jest....somewhat) |

Location: Richland Center, WI. | If she does not ask I do not offer to tell what I just bought. Now if I am asked, the question must be specific. How much did you pay for that? Too much may be the answer. If pinned down, then I need to cough up the purchase price. Usually I don't get asked and my wife will often ask if I want something for musky fishing for a birthday, Christmas or something and then the answer is always the same. YES!!!!!

| I think I'm with Ben on this one.....50/50 plan. Although the wife does seem to buy a new pair of shoes for every 4-5 baits that come in the mail. I joke around with her every time I see a new pair of shoes and say "that's another couple musky baits for me". She just laughes but she is probably on the 50/50 plan as well when it comes to shoes, clothes, jewelry, etc. |

| this year for Christmas my wife was looking to buy me something for fishing. I told her not to, but she was determined to do so anyway.
She spoke with my brother and he gave her a few recommendations. With this, she picked up my Rollie and Helens catalog. BIG MISTAKE on my part for leaving it around.
Before looking at the catalog, she didn't know the difference between bull dawg and calcutta, but she does now. Then a few days after Christmas when I used my Cabelas gift card she gave me and bought a few lures, she was right there when I pulled out my tackle boxes.
Fortunately I was able to convince her that I purchased almost all of this stuff when I was a bachelor. |

I'm sure that just ensures that Andrew places a lot of small orders for things |

| We were "shopping" at a Gander Mountain one day, and my youngest says to my wife, "I thought you didn't like shopping", (a statement my wife has made many times) to which my wife replied, "Oh, this is different. This is FUN!", as she was examining a display of minnowbaits.
I'm good with the "other half" guys. To each his own, eh, Mike? LOL

As long as I keep the freezer stocked with panfish, walleye, pike, etc. I am good to go fishing and spend what I need to accomplish the task. She asks no questions, we have our own hobbies and sports, and she goes fishing with me at times!! Tough job, but I think I'm up to it!! |

What more do you want me to give up?
Truth is I don't want to do any of those other things very much, but it certainly is a good excuse to fish or buy more lures. |
