| Hey all, trying to get some info on what muskie lures consistently catch bass for everyone while muskie fishing. There are some guys on the california bass site that I browse from time to time that have an interest, but who have no idea what muskie baits may work with all the ones that are out there. Meanwhile, they are paying 60 bucks for a big walk the dog bait, so I though I would try to help them out, and maybe help our bait and tackle shops out a little bit too. Personally, my brother and I have caught quite a few on weagles, ss shads, mepps muskie marabou's and Rad dog spinnerbaits, but I wanted to know if there are baits that others are using out there that catch some of the bucket mouths quite frequently too. It would be nice to see the world record largemouth get caught on a weagle, lol. |

| Fished most of my life for bass till I started going to Ky for Muskie and never caught a bass over 5LB in Indiana or Ky then in the past five years I've caught 4 over 6 including one over 8 on musky lures. Always a bonus! I've caught them on Topraider, Suick, Squirrely Burt, and Mag Bulldawg.

Location: ne53 | I've caught more big bass by accident muskie fishing than actually bass fishing. Big baits = big fish. Once had two nice bass hooked the same time on a jake, and my fishing partner had 2 hooked on a believer. Biggest was on a shallow raider, and grandma. |

| Man, we get some huge bass on all sorts of muskie baits, largemouths and smallmouth! Best are normally surface lures, Thunderheads, Topraiders, XL Jitterbugs (deadly), Jackpots, Creep'n Hawgs and especially jntd Beleivers. In the dark is when we get most of them. We shake off bass over 5lbs every season on Suicks, big bootails and spinnerbaits during the day also. They clock them real hard, and for the first few cranks, when a big bass gets those tubby shoulders and flank sideways, they do pull like a decent muskie. This past October, we had 60 degree surface temps up in the Moon River Basin and had a riot from dark until about 1am smoking smallies in the dark on Jitterbugs, Beleivers and Topraiders. Probably six boated each, and man, did they go nuts all the way in. Water was warm and still, so we fished a few spots on top and had a great night, just no muskies. I really feel bad about what 'ski lures can do to a big, beautiful bass though, they normally eat it good plus get a big treble in the side, eye or belly and get beat up pretty bad. I agree with the other guys above, you might not get a limit to win a bass tourney, but throw muskie baits and you'll probably win the Big Fish Pot, bigger bass are fearless when it comes to bigger stuff at times. That ole XL Muskie Jitterbug is a quiet, bait that throws a huge wake behind that subtle 'clap clap clap' of the lip, and a solid hooker, too. You might need to add rings to all three hooks, some don't come with them. They're a super night bait. It's amazing to me how big bass (AMD SMALL PIKE) stick to Jackpots yet I've seen so many muskies either miss totally or not even open their mouths to begin with. |

| I agree that they work well for the really big bass. That's why I wanted to let some of the California trophy bass hunters in on some of the baits that work well on them.
Here are three that we caught on bass baits in one day. Nice fish for the midwest. One muskie that day, but we were really stoked about the bass that we caught, especially the one Big girl I caught burning a mepps marabou. I lost another giant bucket mouth last spring on a mepps too. But most of our bass come on ss shads. |

| I caught 3-4 lb. bass on a Gold Prism 9" Grandma a couple years back.
I've also had smallies following my 8" cylindrical, glidebaits all the way to the bank around dusk while fishing the river.
I caught a 22" Walleye this past fall on an 8 1/2" jointed crank and the fish missed it on one cast and then blasted it at my feet on another.
I will finish by saying, that it just might be, that on lakes where the main large predator is bass, that one might see movements similar to what we would see for pike and musky (i.e. in systems where large pike, musky or even catfish are dominate, they will have their choice of the best spots). While a 10-12 lb. bass may not be able to take down prey as large as that of an 80 lb. catfish or 40 lb. musky, they can definitely handle some big baits for sure.
Thus, it may not only have to do with the size of the bait but also the body of water that you choose to fish. Obviously, those Cali reservoirs where they're catching bass on 8-10 in. swimbaits would probably be a great place to experiment.
Best,
TC

| I have caught really nice Largemouth and Smallmounth bass on the 6.5", jointed Drifter Stalker with a clear plastic lip. Colors: firetiger, orange tiger, red and white scale. Fish caught both casting and trolling. |

| Big bass seem to like the Topwalker by Musky Buster. A friend of mine who frequents Waconia has caught a lot of big bass on the Topwalker up to 22". A 22"er is a big bass for MN, or anywhere really. |

| Smallies and Buckets love WTDs and tail props. I've also pulled in some pretty impressive Largemouths on flaptails. At night if there are buckets around and you're using a surface commotion bait you'll get their attention. |

| I use my muskie baits on farm ponds fishing bass. Grinders work great through the weeds for them. Topraiders, Mepps Marabou and a few others as well. |

| Last year i caught largemouth on the giant witch, pounder, 16" bucktail, 10" jakes. I dont think i can go big enough to avoid these stupid fish..... |

| When I go down south to fish for bass with my dad. I always bring a few shallow raiders, jakes and/or cranes...and a baby weagle or creeper. I noticed some one earlier mentioned how they really put a hurt on the bass with these bigger lures. When I know I'm targeting bass with them I down size the hooks. Once I do this there is a lot less foul hooking and eye plucking. Always get one or two really good ones a year 5-8 lbs. (won't put one on the wall 'till I break the 10lb mark) |

| I'm on vacation in Mesa, AZ right now golfing watching Cubs play the Brewers, and fishing for two days on a good reservoir for bass. Brought some muskie baits with like AHL mini-mag, topraiders, jackpots, double tens tails, DDD's, shad raps, krushers, and some gliders to name a few. Will let you all know how I do. Maybe catch a world record on my baby wabull I brought down . This cpu doesn't have my password so I'm needa70lber. |
