I'd hit some of the tiger lakes if you just want to hook-up with fish. Nokomis, Calhoun chain, or Bryant would be a good place to start. Start with the smaller lakes and work your way up as your skills increase.

my best tiger bait by far is a large bass sized spinnerbait, or rad dog. if you go to nokomis and throw around the bridge all day you'll probably catch one, color really doesn't matter but something white or bright would do the trick.

crystal lake in robbinsdale used to have some really nice fish in it too but it's been a bust the last few years and is really getting dirty.

I lived in Maple Grove for 4 years and Independence was always very kind to me. Chance at a really nice fish as well. Not sure if the Park District still requires money to launch but it did cut down on some of the traffic. I always gladly paid.

Weaver in Maple Grove has some decent Tigers, Indy does still charge $5 per day or you can buy a season pass. Crystal in Robbinsdale was mentioned, you can have some success from shore on that lake, launching a boat there is kind of iffy if you have a bigger boat.

Bald Eagle would be a good lake to get your first fish, with a pretty good chance of that fish being 43-46". It seems there is a nice number of these fish present currently. If you'd like to spend an evening on Bald Eagle in June (best summer month) drop me an email at [email protected]. I've probably had more fish in my boat on that lake over the last three or four years, than anybody else.

If an eccentric millionaire offered me a million dollars to put him on a fish,,,My choice would be Independence,
heavily stocked and the fish mostly stay in water 8ft or less

mskyfishr, you should come to one of our MI meetings. We're a HUGE resource of information. You have to come into it with the understanding that people aren't going to necessarily give you the keys to the church the first couple meetings, but as you meet people and gain their trust the information will come. Drop me a line @ [email protected] for more information.
