I lived in Spirit Lake for 2-1/2 years if that counts. Used to love fishing Smith's Bay, nothing like fishing in no wind but still having 5' waves from the motor boating!

I grew up in Iowa but did not fish much for muskie when I grew up. Fished Hawthorne(sp?) lake for tigers when I was young but never got one. In MN now and looking to go back to Iowa in the next 5 or so years. You guys need to take it up a notch and get some 50"ers in some lakes for me I can make 10lb bass in my pond but don't think I will have much luck making a 50" muskie in a 5-10 acre pond... Maybe I will grow some rainbow trout to feed them lol

Nope about 2 hours farther West of 35 and 3 hours North of 80, little pond we call West Lake Okoboji. But don't tell anyone else Iowa has muskies LOL.

Side note got my baits from you today and can't wait to get them eaten.

I"m in NE, and fish IA regularly. I have a good friend that introduced me to Boji three or four years ago. I'd fished it before, but never in real earnest. Primarily sort of tossed baits on smallmouth trips, while the rest of the guys were fishing smallies. Popped a few, and wanted to really start figuring the lake out,. Man am I glad I did. It's a tremendous lake to fish!

I am from central iowa. Sorry to say I do 98% of my muskie fishing on Leech. I have been over to PC a few times, brushy a few times, and up to clear once. Most of the fishing I do in Iowa is Bass fishing on small ponds. For the excitement, throwing topwater for bass is about has close to muskie fishing you can get.

I'm from Ames. I have a place on Leech, so like Jeremy, I spend almost all of my time on the Longville lakes. Have been on most of the Iowa muskie lakes. Haven't been on 3 Mile, and that is where I'd like to go this spring. Rather than driving 3.5 hours to Okoboji, I'd just as soon drive 3 hours to French in Mn- smaller water with a better chance at fish without the wind and boat traffic. I am hoping that the 1.5 hour drive to 3 Mile becomes a regular if it is as productive as it sounds.

I heard 3 Miles tough, I dont care for the 800 acres standing timber myself. We fished it for a day last year but never moved anything. About like Brushy all standing timber.

I'm in SE South Dakota and have been getting over to West boji pretty regulary. I hope to get there a lot this year. I recognize some of your photos. They are right off my front dock. I think I watched you guys boat one on a figure 8 while I was standing on my dock last september. I have seen some giants in there. Let's just say I'll be more comfortable letting my 3 year old swim this year, as she might be big enough to disuade them from biting her.

What bays your dock on I'll tell you if we caught one there or not. Just a wild guess but my guess is Emerson going into Little Emerson near the point.

HEHE, about the same water clarity too

I used to live in Wa'loo, and fished Brushy Creek a lot and a little at P.C. Since I moved to Mason City though I just fish Clear Lake and maybe three mile once or twice a year. As soon as the MN opener hits though I'm up there every chance I get. I'll still fish Clear lake after work though during the week.

Im in NW IA and last year was my first year really chasing muskie. I tried 3 mile, Brushy, and caught my first legal on West O. Also got the chance to fish on Miltona in MN. I don't have a boat, but I got quite a bit of action from banks and docks.

Doon..... you can pick a sticker up Thursday night at the Expo Center for Friday, Friday night you get Saturdays sticker and so on. I think someone will be around the expo till 9ish Thursday evening but if you can't get there you'll have to have it verified by another boat. Good luck, the calm waters made fishing tough.

Live by Fort Dodge and fish Brushy and Clear Lake.

Timing is everything....

Finally caught a great one on brushy this year....first fish (except a little 20") trying for them in 4 years.

I seen LOTS of fish on Brushy this year...and the 3 trips to CL none.

Are you seeing fish on Brushy that are suspended or in the shallows? Following baits to the boat or frolicking at the top? I get the idea every time I'm there that every species of fish are at or near the bottom in the timber.

Hey Guys,

Shaley is right, if you already have a bump board, but just need a sticker for Friday, you can pick it up at the Expo Center in Spirit Lake from 6pm to 7pm Thurs. Sept. 17th. You can also pick em up at Oh Shucks Friday morning as well, They open at 6 pm, and of course fishing don't start till 7 am so that works as well. If you need a bump board we will sell them at 6 pm to 7 pm Thursday Sept. 17 at the Expo Center as well. They of course will be available Fri, Sat, Sun. tool. We look forward to seeing everyone at the tournament this weekend! We have some great raffle prizes again this year. Good Luck!

Earlier in the spring you will find them suspended a LOT.....many times right out in the middle of the lake.

I do not believe they are on the bottom....thermocline is around 25' and the lake is up to 70' plus deep.
