If you could run just one sucker how would you run it?

On a bobber behind the boat deep.
On a bobber behind the boat shallow.
Under the boat shallow.
Under the boat deep.
On a planer board shallow.
On a planer board deep.
Another way not mentioned.

Why?

I prefer in the water, honestly straight down the front of the boat with a circle hook half way down.

On the back way down deep with no bobber. Most likely with a circle hook or a quick set rig, but lately the quick set rigs haven't been working to well.

I like to run them up on a beach point, roll around in the sand w/ them, then chase them back in the water.
When I was younger I prefered to run one in the quarter mile....[:((]

I DON'T KNOW WHAT SIZE SUCKERS YOU ARE USED TO USING, I GENERALLY ASK FOR THE "BIGGEST"(22"-24"ish)ONES THEY HAVE. THEY ALMOST ALWAYS SEEM TO HAVE A MIND OF THEIR OWN.......I PREFERE THE QUICK STRIKE RIGS AND USE LARGE BOBBERS. I LIKE'EM TO RUN ABOUT 4ft DOWN(DEPENDING ON WHERE I'M FISHING). IT SEEMS THE MORE I TRY TO CONTROL THEM THE MORE DIFFICULT IT BECOMES. I TRY TO SET UP ON A DRIFT AND LET THEM DO THE WORK. GO WITH THE FLOW.....[;)]

Hey Muskiefirsters,

I like to run my sucker right on the bottom with a Herbie Rig. I put a 1/2 to 2 ounce rubbercore about 10 to 18 inches in front of the suckers nose.

I keep the rod in my hand and make constant contact with the bottom feeling for the sucker to get nervous and for the ski to EAT IT!!!

I'm with Donnie, though I usually run one more just out of sight depending on water clarity. This one gets hit most often, but the one down deep usually has the biggest teeth marks in it. I like running a bobber in shallow situations, and leave about 25 feet of line out, and let my girlfriend contend with that one(her sole job on our river trips). She enjoys that, and usually catches something too(maybe not usually, but quite often)!

All of the above or what ever way the muskie want it that day.
Looking back the top two have been just off the bottom and up high on a cork.

Spongster,
Did you ever try running them on a leash? As I got past age 35, I couldn't keep up with them so I put on one of those buzz collars. When they get too far ahead, ZAP!!! Gives the muskies a little shock too so my suckers live longer![:p]

I guess I don't have a favorite way to run them because
one way doesn't always work tommorrow. Unless it's late fall
then running 3 HUGE hunks of livemeat while covering all your best spots drinking hot coffee,b.s.ing to your partner,
smoking cigs and enjoying mama nature! It's hard to beat that![;)]
