| so on todays episode the last little 45sec. "muskie bit" that Joe had he was flipping a bass style jig into thick weeds. he had removed the skirt from the jig and just had a 6" or so long black grub on it. now my question being.....
it was just a regular old 5/8oz bass jig do you think that the hook on those are large enough and strong enough to withstand a muskie!?! ive gotten stuck on tree limbs before and straightend hooks on them.....this seemed like a really good idea to try but im reluctant since its just a single hook and they are smaller in size....
any ideas?

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | I believe certain jigs have a really heavy hook on them, so I wouldn't be too worried about it. I saw the clip too...something else to keep in the arsenal of tricks.

Location: Grand Rapids MN | Never fished jigs for 'skies but I guess you would want to match your jig hook to your rod/reel strength, meaning Joe had down sized his rod to a little heavier flippin' stick but lighter than his regular gear. You just won't be able to horse the fish in as easily as your big gear and tackle. |

| If you play your cards right and set the drag the correct way you will have a better chance at catching a muskie in the early spring using small jigs, in the summer it's a different game, this has happen in the past with fishing jigs, I would rather use a 30lb Stren Super Braid, most of the fish are hooked in the corner of the mouth.

| I use a crawler jig, its a 3/4 oz 5/0 hook. 2xlong 4x heavy. It's a company in florida that makes them. I'll have to double check the exact name. I don't remove the skirt on them, though. And the trailer I use is generally a Kalins, or something of that nature. I've also used Yamamoto's saltwater Ika, and the Kreature, both have treated me well in spring. |

Yes, those 'bass jigs' do catch fish, and not just as a pitchin' presentation. Most will hold a fish just fine if your tackle matches the jig.
