It''s about half and half in my house, but I would say I''m the better (more adventurous) cook. I love grilling and I''ve even barbequed in 20 below temperatures with snow. I can also do some excellent Chinese.

1/2 and 1/2 at my house too. We both enjoy cooking and luckily we both have separate areas as our specialty so the menu is always interesting.

At our house, the Dinner ritual is pretty much a social event where we catch up with each other and talk about house business. It's my favorite time of day. No TV allowed, just good eats and conversation.

When it comes to anything other than cereal or a basic sandwich, I do all the cooking. Whether it be in the kitchen or on the grill. I guess that the three years in high school and first two years of college spent working in a restaurant pointed me in the right direction (at least when it comes to cooking).

I’m mostly a grill master; my cooking is typically on summer weekends when I’m not fishing. I’ve some pretty good marinades for shish kabobs and steaks, but good steaks are best when left plain or with a little garlic pressed into it. I’ve been trying many barbeque sauces for ribs over the years and this summer’s favorite is Famous Daves. I also have a smoker that I’ve been experimenting with. My best-smoked dish is Cornish game hens stuffed with oranges and wrapped in bacon then hickory smoked. Ummm.

LOL JOHN!! I found out 5 yrs. ago once you have a little Sponge what else is left BUT food![;)] I can always remember all my relatives/Mom using Cast iron skillets/dutch ovens, pressure cookers etc. + eating about everything that moved. No matter how hard I try I still can''t top Mom''s Jambalaya, creole or gumbo! She still cayennes the pee-dinkles out of everything + my wife is just now after 13 yrs. getting used to it. Dad always cooked also + my brother + I grew up w/ it. I fix nothing fancy + most often pick something out, visualize the dish + begin to add this + that, much like some of the great atrists did(LOL)! Those big bait suckers can be par-boiled + made into fish cakes/pies that are awesome;better seined in the spring when the water is cold. I''ll throw a recipe in as the year goes on + hope others will do the same!
*** Kent- my admiration for the artic grilling!... see you like Chinese but how do you keep the rice from falling through the grate?[:sun:]
**Jono- been reading Dr. Joyce Brothers eh? Good idea w/ no tv etc... need to try it! We always eat at 6:00 during the local news + during the commercials little Sponge + I feed each other. I also have to read if I''m eating; bad habit I''ve had for years! Think I''ll try your method + I''ll let you know if it works! [:praise:]

Joyce Brothers?!?! The only interesting reading from her would be an obituary. Whoa, checking 1,2,3 is this mic on? Thanks ladies and gentleman, I'll be here all week. Drive safely and good night.

Seriously, we do it because it's a great time. I can't even remember us doing this conciously, it just kinda happens this way. I suppose that helps our brains too but that's just a side effect, heh-heh.

I suppose another angle on this is that if you truly enjoy cooking and all that goes into it, why spoil it with some hack local anchor droning on about the Zippadeedoodaa township zoning crisis. Focus on the food and the ritual. Feast man! Feast!

Now, if it's TV dinners or microwave Burritos that you're serving...well then serve it up with a Seinfeld rerun. That fare needs TV to distract you from what you're stuffing in your gaping maw. I like my burritos with lots o salsa and the soup nazi episode.

Jon, have to see the news.... a ritual! what is the deal w/ this computer worm thing? supposed to hit around 8:00 EST. I don't want to be on here + screw the wifes' computer up! Besides Sponge Bob comes on Nickelodeon at 8:00 + that also is a ritual. I know very little about computers + in fact learned to type over the past year + 3/4 on this thing. Don't want to mess it up 'cause she tests programs from home sometimes + has stuff in here that will cause me to die if she loses it! Thanks, Rik[:sun:]

I'm the cook in our house- If our son (25) calls, he just asks - what's for dinner?- He can tell by his mother's response whether I'm home or not! Egg's & toast, pizza, hot dog's, etc- Dad's gone! [:halo:] But, I don't do dishes![] I've got a few favorite no-fail receipes that I'll share w/ the MuskieFIRST board as the coming year goes on - you be the judge! Man's gotta eat- might as well eat well- just not Muskie-[:sun:]

I also have done the majority of the cooking in my house for the past 10 years. Right after our marriage, my wife discovered that she was "doing it all. . ." and gave me a choice cooking or dishes. Boy was that easy. My food tastes tend to be a little wild . . . I love anything ethnic: chinese, thai, mexican, italian, cajun (Louisiana isn't really part of the good ole USA, you know). My best recipies are rice derivatives: paella, jambalya, and risotto. One day when I've got a little more time, I'll share with the board. Maybe we should have some sort of contest??? No muskie recipies!!!!

Keep up the good cookin' guys!!

Bill []
