Talked to Rick at Pikedale on Leech today. They have had a lot of fronts coming and going through for quite awhile. The next 2-3 weeks ought to bring some stable warm weather. Lake is "2 feet high"- I don't know if that means the water depth is 2 ft higher, or the water's edge is 2 ft further upshore- seems logical that it is the latter. Large walleye being caught in shallow weeds (5-8 feet)using live bait rigs, jigs. Check Jim Murphy's Leech Lake Guide Service or go to fishingleechlake.com

Was on Cass last Saturday for a Tourney. My partner and I boated 2 casting over the cabbage in Allens Bay. 7-10 feet of water using Mepps Giant Musky Killers. Also had one other follow.[:p]

Fishing is picking up a little. Need some stable weather. Did hear of a 54.5 inch fish caught by a walleye angler. Fish ate a leech in 30 feet of water, go figure, what is that fish doing in that deep of water. Eating walleyes, don't tell the Lake Miltona gang. Weeds are in great shape on Leech but aren't holding a lot of fish it seems. Got to get better. The Muskies Inc. tournament is the week end after Labor day. The Cass Lake tourney is near the end of September.

Good luck, Murph!

I was on Leech the third week in June. Fished Musky and northern pretty heavily and only saw 2 musky the whole week. Both were in the cabbage and were only around 38-40" in length. One looked pretty scarred from something, maybe from spawning yet. I did not hear of anyone doing well that week.

As far as northerns, the largest, 29", was caught while walleye fishing with a jig and leech.

Good luck to you. I think stable weather will be key.
