I have a couple new double 10 bucktails that I'm having trouble with. Sometimes
its like the blades "stack" one on the other and sort of try to turn together.
This causes the whole lure to spin and you don't feel the steady pull that seems
to be normal for these baits. The blades seem to turn at about half their speed
that they do when they run right. Sometimes if I stop and re-start the bait it will
staighten out, but not always. Is there any tricks or techniques for curing this.
Thanks, Roger.

Depends on the manufacturer, as to what the cure is. I've noticed that one, in particular, you sometimes have to spread the clevis just slightly. Another, you have to give a bit of a sharp tug. The only tens that have been very reliable for me are Mojo's, as far as spinning consistently, no muss, no fuss cast retrieve. I can't say that about any other I've used, except for my own.

I give all mine a good tug right from the start and that seems to do the trick for starting the big double tens regardless of brand. If you make you own, interior wire hole diameter on the clevis needs to be the right size for the body wire you are using. If it is too tight this will cause spinning problems. Just make sure you oversize it a little.
Just my 2 cents...

Not all, give credit where credit is due. Like I said, I've never haid Mojo blades that don't spin off the bat. I don't know what's different, but they are different enough to have an impact.

one thing that will help is to be sure to "synchronize" the bait. ie., use your thumb on the line to stop the cast before the lure hits the water, and pull the rod slightly so that the bait enters the water moving towards you.
this will help get the blades spinning with any bucktail, double-10s included.

This happen all the time when I guide. People cast the bucktail out, let it sink until they are able to start reeling, then the bait comes to the surface, skipping across the water.
You can stop this by reeling when your bait hits the water.
If you can't do this then give it a quick snap when you engage the reel.
ALL double 10 bucktails do this.

I'm being quite serious. I don't have a problem with Mojo blades starting at all. Cowgirls, Llungen, and others, don't start for me like Mojo blades do. Admittedly, not all of my own start the way they do. Starting/spinning on the retrieve isn't solely based on the blades, its on the bait as a whole.
As others have sid they all wear over time, as well. Think I'm not being serious, have a look in my box, the majority of the double 10's I carry now, are mine, and Mojo. very few from other manufacturers. It could also have somthing to do with the bou, versus silli, or rubber, or mylar, as well. Yet, again, I stand behind what I said.

I only run DC 10's and I have only had the blades not turn a couple times, a quick snap of the tip normaly solves this.
