alot of people are talking about what reels to use for big bucktails, but i need a new reel for small to medium bucktails. what would you guys suggest for them? im thinking something like an Abu Record 60. any other suggestion? something in that price range. i dont really wanna spend more than $150 and it dosent need to last really long. maybe like two years of musky hunting. thanks for any help and suggestions

For what you're looking for and your expectations of the reel, you can't go wrong with the Abu Garcia 5500 or 6500 C3s.

Okuma Induron 250. This reel will throw anything from a Mepps spinner to a Wabull.

Steve, I was looking for an endorsement on that reel and I certainly value your thoughts. I was thinking about trying one this year myself. Thanks.

I agree with the curado, casts great and fits in your hand for palming.

Curado for me too. The Luna would be runner up.

cabo pt saltwater reel from quantum is a great reel for smaller baits, low profile but can take the abuse of larger baits too. Very comfortable reel for long fishing trips matted to a lighter musky rod. They make left hand and right hand, with two size reels 30pt bigger, 20pt smaller. 5.8 to 1 ratio. The standard abu 5600 is great also. cabo pt is around $150, abu around $70-80

Fellas, the man asked for a reel around $150. Curados suggested retail is $250 and the Luna is $230-240 depending on which model. The Okuma is in his target price range at $120 as are the Abu Garcias up to and including the Records.

If you want speed with that small bucktail, I'd go with a Abu 7000 High Speed Narrow (HSN). Works awesome for Showgirls and other small blades. Retails at $149.

curado is a little pricey, but once you try it you'll never want to use a big barrel type reel again....it has bigger and stronger gears then a calcutta....and they have a $50 rebate going on right now.......the only drawback is they only offer it in one gear ratio.
