Location: Illinois | I've used the h3o glasses for a couple of years and like them very much. They come with 3 lenses (amber, dark, yellow) and a case. Although I've heard some have trouble with the lenses (falling out) I have not had any such problems. They are costly, but worth it (to me)if you take good care of them. Check em out at : http://h3opolarized.com

| I have the Costa Del Mar Fathoms.
Blue Mirror (gray base) for saltwater/open water fishing
Green Mirror (amber base) for most musky fishing/low light conditions
I like the blue mirror lens better on super bright days, like out on the gulf for example when you have miles of glare in your face, but if it's cloudy and raining, just before sunrise/after sunset, etc. it's really difficult to see with them.
With the Green mirror lens I can still see until its almost dark, but they're definitely not as comfortable on the eyes in bright sun.
You probably don;t want two pairs though, so I'd go with the green lens/amber base. Ocean Waves have a good reputation, too but I've never used them.

I wouldn't consider anything else. These will work well for every situation out there in Musky Fishing. Only you won't find them for $100 with the Backwater Green lenses.

| I do the same as esoxaddict, Costas in blue and green mirrored but I have the T2's in blue and Fathoms in green. If I did it again I would go with the T2's in both. The Fathoms are nice and they have a little "wing" on each side to cut back glare and they work for that but I find that they steam up quite easilly for me but then again I sweat pretty good!
Whatever ones you go with make sure you get glass lenses, not any of the plastic, polycarbonit, or other stuff out there. My T2's are over 5 years old and do not have a scratch on them and believe me I do not baby them! |

Location: Kronenwetter, WI | I keep hearing positives about the OW Backwater Greens....Who has the best price? Oceanwaves.com sells the boston in backwater green for 189. That color lens is an extra 30 bucks.
They are offered in glass and plastic.....can anyone who's used both comment on pros and cons of each material?
Found them for 142 bucks at:

| Hey Guys,
I bought a pair from Orvis in the spring of last year that are quite amazing. They are called Tri-Spectrum HVO Sunglasses. Here's a link:
http://www.orvis.com/store/product_choice.asp?pf_id=82T1&dir_id=758...
They also have a graph that talks about color enhancement here:
http://www.orvis.com/orvis_assets/prodimg/101106_TriSpectrum.gif
I was looking at these and the Costa Del Mar Wave 580.
They were very close. Ultimately, I happened to be in Boston where I could check out both lenses but only the Orvis store actually had sunglasses that I could buy right then in the lense shade that I desired. The Costas required special ordering and, thus, I couldn't "try on" the pair that I would buy.
Perhaps BassPro or such has some in stock that you could try on.
Both were top notch.
I will add, though, that the interchangeable 400 lenses in the Costas look awfully nice too. They may not have the enhanced color acuity that the 580's have but the multiple lenses certainly add flexibility.
Lastly, I should mention that the Orvis glasses won "Best of Show" last year at a fly-fishing retailer show:

Hope the above is helpful
Best,
Todd

| I'm pretty fond of my Oakley glasses. As well, I like the action optics. The oakley has the greatest range of lens colors, at least that I've found. I ten to wear copper more than anything else. Followed by amber. |

| For those who wear Oakleys how do you find the durability of the lenses? I had several pairs years ago along with different lenses and they scratched so easilly that they were for the most part useless. |

Do glass lenses scratch less easily than plastic?
Yes, they do, however, you generally pay for that in weight. Most glass lenses are a minimum 5-7 times heavier than a poly lens. Wearing that day in day out can get tiresome, you really notice a difference.
I've had really good luck with Oakley lenses. They do seem more durable than they used to be. |

| I've had my Costa glass lenses for over 5 years and there is not a scratch on them and I don't baby them. I clean them with whateer is handl, my shirt, napkin, fish towel, etc. In fact I have had to send them back to the factory 3 times after I stepped or sat on them, yet the original lenses are still perfect.
I don't find the weight a problem but to each there own. |
