Any recommendations on how to mount / what controls to use for a kicker motor for an 1850 Fishhawk. I am going to go w/ a 8 or 9.9 hp.
thanks in advance

I'd suggest a 9.9 4 stroke. If you want remote throttle and shift cables, you will need to get those for the motor as well. Try the classifieds on this and many other sites, you'll locate a good deal.

We run a 9.9 Bigfoot and find it to be good on fuel, but really noisy (from idle to maybe 3 MPH it's OK). We've got it connected directly to the big motor so that we can steer from the boat's steering wheel, throttle control placement is directly behind the big motor's. Have found it is difficult to make quick turns and the overall maneuverability is not good. That said if we troll it's usually with the big motor. We bought the kicker to use on smaller HP limit lakes and for that purpose it does fine.

Try searching this forum because there was a similar thread a while back on this very topic.

I run a 9.9 Mercury Pro Kicker (4-stroke) on my FishHawk 1750. It's connected by a rod to the 115hp for steering purposes, and I use the Trollmaster Pro II to control the speed from the helm. With this setup i can also use the tiller on the kicker whenever I am looking for some precision control around weed beds, breaks, etc.

Having dual (factory) throttles up front is somewhat difficult. One of the throttles has to be placed either in front or behind the other. I heeded this warning when I ordered the boat new, and am quite satisfied on my current setup. The Trollmaster pro control os a little dial on a control pad that can be mounted anywhere that it's out of the way and has some protection from really fierce weather. The Pro Kicker is a fine little motor. It's fairly quiet and is really great on gas.

The nice thing about the TrollMaster Pro II is that you can regulate your speed down to tenths of a mile per hour. It's really big among the Walleye guys ...

I used to run a Yamaha T-8 on my old 1850. Ran it well and had the steering hook-up to main engine. I would also suggest that if you don't get remote control, which is pretty costly, is to get a Trollmaster.

Trollmaster Pro II was about $270. The utility that one gets from an expenditure of that size is tremendous.

I have a Yamaha T8 and like the motor. It's good on gas and it pushes my 1850 up to 6.5 gps speed altough it is a little louder wide open of course. Must say I'd be a lot happier however with power trim and a throttle control. When I want to set it to an exact speed I have to go back and forth with the GPS to the motor. I would take those factors into consideration before buying it. I can't complain that much however i got a heckuva deal on the motor. GL with whatever you should decide.

The TrollMaster will solve the problems of running all over the boat when you troll. At least do a search on Google and visit their web site to see what it's all about.

Where did you find a good deal on your T-8?? Any suggestions on where to find a good used one? I have been looking around on the net and they seem hard to find. What model do you have in the T-8?

Thanks

I've got th T-8 w/trollmaster, trim and connector bar to my main motor...Trollmaster allows you to PRECISELY duplicate trolling speed once you establish a pattern.

Great set-up.

I got it from a buddy so I can't help you too much there. Try google ing small outboards .com. Some decent deals there. I would also keep your eye on walleye first classifieds.

If you would happen to entertain a 15hp, my father would be looking to sell is 2004 johnson 4 stroke (electric, tiller long shaft)... It's barely seen the water. I personally did the break in on it "by the book"

Just a thought...
