How many of you guys cut off the top hook on your larger dawgs or Suzie Suckers

I've heard that some larger fish can use the top hook for leverage to get off.....Is there any truth to this??

Ive never boated a fish on this top hook, should it stay or should it go??

Never hooked a fish on the top hook myself on either of those baits. I have heard that sometimes a muskie or pike can pin their mouth closed from getting the top and bottom hooks in them at the same time. Never seen it but have heard it happening. I would not take the top hook off myself, just keep some good long bolt cutters with you just in cast.

My 2 largest fish this year were hooked on the top hook of Mag Dawgs....no other hooks were in the fish. IMO it's just stupid to cut hooks of lures that aren't causing a problem with casting or retrieves. Can they use the top hook as leverage??? Maybe. There are lots of lures out there that they can get leverage on. I leave all mine on and let the cards lay where the lay.

Ive had fish hooked and landed on only the top hook so i would not have gotten that fish had it not been there.I have also had fish pinned on the top single and bottom trebles which has been fun but nothing the knipex couldnt handle.I would leave it there.I do have dogs that i have had to cutt the top hook out on baddly hooked fish and still throw them with no problums so far but if i could put the hook back on i most deffinetly would!
