If many of you who frequent this board remember, I put out a call for veterans that would like to go on a muskie fishing trip this coming summer. Well I have been working with some really great guys and it has all come together. Thought I would just drop a line and let everyone in on what is shaping up to be a great outing. This outing, dubbed Operation Musky, will take place on LOTW from 5-8 August at Walsh's Bay Store Camp. Mr Frank Walsh has graciously donated his entire resort for this trip. There will be 20 veterans who will be guided by 10 of the greatest muskie guides around. If you visit the website, you will see who many of them are. There have been many great folks that have contributed to this, mainly the FLW, which threw in a large chunk of change, so that the veterans can attend Operation Muskie for no cost to them at all!! Just a small way to say "Thank You" to all the veterans out there that put themselves into harms way for us and our way of life. One of the veterans that will be going to Operation Muskie is none other than Lambeau, but we don't know if us Vikings fan can call him that!!! Take a look at the website and if you run into one of the guides that is volunteering his time, boat and equipment for this, tell him thanks, or throw some business his way!!!!

One of the reporters for the Chicago Sun-Times just wrote an article about Operation Musy in the Sunday paper.  Here is the link to the article if anyone is interested.

Mike, I can't give you numbers, but I was holding one of the donation buckets and was very pleasantly surprised at the generousity of the crowd at the Pearson/Johnson seminar. Almost everyone dug in their pocket to give to this cause.

Michelle and I donated two of our new 10 inch Talonz Slashers to the Cause. I gave them to Doug Johnson after his seminar along with a cash donation for the cause. My nephew is over there and had to do some killing. He is mess and wants to go to a quiet place and fish when he gets home. It tears my heart up to hear his stories from Iraq. My sister crys a lot. His name is Jared Peterson please add his name to your prayers. This is a great cause as these young men will need to vent the horrors they have seen and leave them somewhere in the prop wash of thier lives. We can help with that as fishermen. King, Prayers are with your nephew.

Saw you in one of the photos. You are nothing like I expected. Much better looking!

Just got this from Bret for Operation Muskie. If you want to donate lures or equipment you can send it direct to:

Walsh's Bay Store Camp
2931 Oak Island
Oak Island, MN 56741

Sounds like 20 guys will be going. I am sure new lures or slightly used or whatever would be appreciated. These guys and gals put their lives on hold and on the line for us. I can't think of any better way of saying thank you.

Sounds like it happens in August 2008 at LOTW?

Hi all:

I just wanted to thank everyone who so generously dug into their pockets
and gave to help our Vets at the Chicago Muskie show. Thanks very much!!

If anyone would like to donate any money, we have set up an "Operation Muskie"
checking account at the Warroad bank. My wife has volunteered to be treasurer (she's the only one of us who can add). To send donations make the check out to "Operation Muskie" and address them to:

Operation Muskie
% Vonnie Johnson
407 Lake St NW
Warroad, Mn 56763

Thanks from us and from our Veterans.

Doug, is there a Tax id. for this yet. I have a good line on some possible donations, but they need a Tax id. before they can confirm.

Steve:

Thanks for freezing this. We are about half way to our goal for $. Takes a lot of food, beer, and gas to fish 20 Vets for four days. The resort and guides are all donated, so we only have to pick up the rest, still no small number.

Thanks again!

This is awesome you guys. Great job in getting something like this going and setting it up. Thanks to all the donors and mostly thank-you to the veterans as well as current military men/women. Hope you guys really enjoy this one; and it sounds like fish or no fish, you will!

Was working in our store the other day and came up with the finished "official" Operation Muskie shirts. Stayed with the Red, White and Blue theme in honor of the vets. Also, on the back I added the "Freedom Isn't Free" quote. Thought all of you might like to take a peek at them, so here they are. Cost for the shirts is $15.00 for short sleeve (Youth Small - Adult XL, add $3.00 for XXL & XXXL) and 18.00 for long sleeves (add $3.00 for XXL and XXXL).

Orders can be place via phone for credit card orders (320) 732-3969 and check and money orders can be mailed to:

Woldwear

514 4th Ave SE

Long Prairie, MN 56347

Proceeds go to help fund the costs for Operation Muskie - help a veteran go fishing on LotW this summer! If you have any further questions, please contact me via the site or at [email protected]

Just thought I would share with you a response that I got from one of the participants of Operation Muskie.  I sent out an update letter to the vets, and this is what I got back from one that is currently in Iraq:

Bret,

You rock! You are running a great show. I will continue to thank you every time I zap you. Thanks!

War in Iraq is going good. Don't know if you know our mission from the 176 FS, 115 FW (Madison, WI guys). We fly the F-16 and our mission is to execute CAS to support the ground forces. We love the mission. Supporting the ground forces is what we live for. We fly the best CAS jet in the world. Makes it very good to support the ground forces.  Most of the time we provide NT-ISR (non-traditional intelligence surveillance reconnaissance) with our targeting pods to provide "eyes in the sky" to the forces in the ground. We escort convoys, search for IEDs... Whatever it takes. Missions have been going great and saving lives. We have detected many potential IEDs and several confirmed IEDs. In addition, we are always ready to kill the bad guys and have had quite a bit of action lately.

I am sure you get tons of requests for the pairings. I am very excited to get a chance to fish with Doug Johnson. Thanks! No internet access at our base in Iraq for a while due to comm issues!). I am not familiar with this guide, so maybe that's a great deal. But I would not mind getting a chance to have exposure with different guides. I am a musky fishing fanatic and always looking to learn new tricks from different guides.

I do not want to cause you any hassle, but if you do make any swaps, can you keep it in mind? Thanks!

Hope all is well. We just finished watching the Super Bowl with near beer.

Not the same but at least we got to watch the game.

Thanks again and take care,

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to Operation Muskie, the vets really appreciate it!!!

Hooker:

The thought of perhaps trying to find a booth to piggyback off of, or something of that nature has crossed my mind, but we are trying to get a feel if anyone is even going to purchase the shirts or hats.

Here are the 3 hats that we have come up with for Operation Muskie.  Something for eveyrone.  The blue hat has a muskie embroidered on the bill with the cabbage embroidered down the side.  Velcro fasteners on all of them.
