I am debating whether to get an airbrush for lure painting (personal lures, maybe sell a few) because I am not sure of the complete supplies list and want to know my costs. Can anyone here give me a general list of supplies and the average start-up costs for a lure painting system? looking to paint cranks, topwaters, and glide baits. Please help!

This has been discussed a bunch here, do a search on one of the keywords and you'll find a ton of info. Anyone care to answer this here? Beav?

75 bucks for a Pasche 1/10th hp compressor, 50 bucks for a single action gun. Paint kits by Createx can go from 4 bucks for one little bottle to as much as you want to spend in paint. Go water based so you wont get sick on toxic fumes. Build a small wood booth with bathroom type paneling like plastic sheeting so you can wash it down. Stainless steel or aluminum sheeting is better but expensive. A small 8 inch duct work inline fan and some 8 inch metal duct work for over spray. I vent it out a basement egress window that I removed and replaced with a metal plate. When I move Ill just put the glass back in and no one will ever know there was a paint booth in my basement ha ha ha . I use standard furnace air filters to catch the solids all can be built for a couple hundred bucks. You can be up and running in two days for about 4 hundred. I know a guy who just sprays into a tunnel through his wall. It works like ten. He has a Fan with a filter in front of it . The tunnel is the same size as the fan. He opens the door on the outside of his shop and turns on the fan. All the over spray goes into the filter where the solids are caught. You could also do this in front of a garage or utility room window. Set a table up in front of the tunnel with your lure supports/racks or how ever you plan to hold the baits and spray directly at the filter. As long as you use water based paints there will be no chance of paint fumes igniting from the fan motor. Laquer fumes are very explosive so dont use an inline fan motor if you plan on painting Solvent based paints. Its all relative to how many baits you want to do. I have a clean drying room and Epoxy tumbler set up, Assembly room , Woodshop and even a computer setup for printing our own packaging cards. Still in all my investment was small and I was able to build it without going to the bank. Im clearing 30 grand a year net after expenses and taxes and that number will be climbing as we are just now getting into the main stream retail market. The sky is the limit.

Dual action guns are better for detailed paint jobs like Tigger, Snax and many of the others on this forum. They require a little more practice to master the trigger. I still use an old single action pasche . I have been using this type of air brush for 20 years. They are easy to use ,easy to clean and will do most every aspect of Lure painting.

I would start by building a wood box that fit into a window like an air conditioner. put a door on the outside and a fan inside the box. Staple or tape a standard air filter to the inside and wala, there you have a 50 dollar spray booth. get the little Pasche compressor and single action gun some paints and sealers and you are running for about 400 tops. I hope this helps, Kingfisher

I agree with the single action. I have alot of top end airbrushes and use the single action.
You cant go wrong with the Pasche single.

DixieArt.com is a great place to order from. They seem to have the best prices on airbrushes and Createx paint. A bunch of other stuff too. Plus they have free shipping on any order over $45.
