Location: Racine, Wi | I agree with the TDR's. You don't have to break the bank getting into trolling. If you are getting into it big time, do it right. I'm not sure how many rods you can run where you are, but if you can run multiple rods, get rods in different lenghts. ie 8', 9', 10'. That will help spread your baits out. The TDR's are good and I run many of those, and I also ran some 10' Okuma trolling rods. (I have to look up the name of the model). They are built to take beatings.
For reels, get line counters for sure, as they make it easy to duplicate what you are doing. There are many posts on the site that have info on this. I use the Okuma Magda's with 80# power pro for both salmon and 'skis. I've also used the Shakespere Tidewaters, but the clickers have been going out on me as of late. For the money though, they did the job.
Get some longer leaders (I run 4-5' 100# floro) like mentioned above, and you should be all set. I don't think you need the snubbers though for the ski's. I haven't had any issues with break offs or loosing many fish when trolling.

Location: WV | thanks alot for helping me get set up. I appreciate it, especially with the rods. I was going to buy something in the 100 dollar range. 30 sounds even better. I am going to troll untill I catch two muskies. then decide to continue or go back to my labor of love, casting for one week for one musky! thanks again
